Marjorie Anne Schwartz Peterson, age 92, of Wayland passed away on August 25, 2025. She grew up in Montana, North Dakota and Minneapolis.
Peterson studied voice and music at St. Catherine’s University in St. Paul,
Minn. She was a devoted wife, mother, musician, and active community volunteer.

She volunteered with the Wayland Boosters, St. Ann’s Guild, the Women’s
Club, the Wayland Garden Club, and Arts Wayland. She often took a leadership role in these organizations, serving as president for most of them. Peterson was one of the founders of the Wayland High School Scholarship fund in 1972, and she was proud to be a Master Gardener and trustee of the New England Wildflower Society.

A passionate traveler, she journeyed across the globe, photographing beautiful gardens and natural landscapes with an artist’s eye. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Robert, and is survived by her sister, Jeanne Lourey, and children Patricia Pluskal, Dr. Robert Peterson, Rev. Catherine Blake, and Thomas Peterson. She also leaves seven grandchildren, six granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held on September 27 at the John Bryant Funeral Home. Instead of flowers, Marjorie wished donations to be made to GlobeSanta.org.
