Police in Wayland are investigating an assault that occurred at a residence on Joyce Road late Friday night, according to Chief Ed Burman.

Officers responded to a 9:43 p.m. call on July 18 and found the homeowner suffering from facial injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation, the homeowner heard a noise coming from his backyard and went to investigate. When he looked outside, he saw two men dressed in dark clothing and wearing face masks. The suspects, armed with handguns, entered the home and demanded money and gold, but ultimately fled empty-handed through the front door, police said.

The homeowner was treated at a local hospital for injuries described as minor. The suspects remain at large.

According to a neighbor, “10 police cars, search dogs, and a drone were in front of [her] house on Joyce [Road] searching for the suspects until about midnight. The officers were thorough and kind.”

Wayland Police, assisted by other law enforcement agencies, have deployed resources to apprehend the suspects.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Wayland Police Department at 508-358-4721.
