Motor Vehicle Excise Tax Commitment

The board approved the seventh commitment for motor vehicle and trailer excise taxes for calendar year 2024, totaling $22,083.64, based on a total valuation of $7,434,319.

Abatement Review and Office Updates

Leroux reported that fiscal year 2025 abatement inspections were nearly complete, with one outstanding case awaiting property access. The owner has until March 6 to respond. The board will have access to the assessor’s office on March 5 and March 6 to review abatement applications before final decisions are made on March 17.

The office continues to assist the Council on Aging with real estate tax-related inquiries. Leroux also noted that 958 delinquent motor vehicle excise tax notices were sent for unpaid bills dating back to 2002. This effort is part of a renewed push by the Treasurer/Tax Collector to clear outstanding debts.

Certification Achievement

Leroux announced that Tamara Keith had achieved certification as a Massachusetts Accredited Assessor. She will be recognized at an event planned for March 19.

The board scheduled its next meeting for March 17, where it will finalize real estate abatements and vote on exemption applications.
