Did you know that there once was a Tea House in Wayland Center? How about a house where teachers boarded, as they could not be married and often came from other towns? Or where was the Pequod Inn? The Fourth Meetinghouse?

Join us on Sunday, Sept. 21,at 2 p.m. and we’ll step back in time. Explore the architectural gems of the historic Wayland Center with Wayland Museum & Historical Society as part of the Wayland Rev250 Celebration Group.

This guided walking tour by Gretchen Schuler showcases the distinctive buildings and landmarks that tell the story of our town’s evolution from pre-Revolution to the present day. We will begin at the Grout-Heard House, home of the Wayland Museum & Historical Society, and make a loop by walking south toward the First Parish Church, crossing Boston Post Road, and back on the other side of Cochituate Road. Gretchen will show photographs of buildings that no longer exist and talk about the history of the area, with some focus on Revolutionary days here.

Cider and cookies made from 18th-century recipes at the Museum will be served after the one-hour walking tour. Weather permitting, we’ll enjoy the reception on the front lawn of the Grout-Heard House. Guides will be available for tours of the first floor of the House. This event, free and open to the public.
Rain date: Sunday, Sept. 28. To registration online, go to tinyurl.com/wayland-tour.
