To the Editor:
Even if you were unsure who to vote for in 2024, you probably did not expect to be involved in another foreign war within a year — one that has neither a clearly defined goal nor an exit strategy. Even if you were happy after the 2024 election, you probably had high hopes for the cost of living to go down, not up.
If you were upset about the outcome of the election in 2024, you probably already participated in a No Kings rally in 2025. There were two — one in June, and a much larger one, attended by around seven million people, in October. These rallies are growing, because more and more people are deeply concerned and outraged about the direction our country is taking. There will be a third No Kings on March 28, including many planned rallies in Massachusetts, even right here in Wayland and in Boston.
Social scientists say that nonviolent uprisings succeed when 3.5% of the population are mobilized. For the United States, that would mean 12.25 million people need to go to the streets and protest. Ideally, everyone who came out in October will bring at least one other person along on March 28 that has not gone to a protest up to now. Many groups connected to the climate movement are joining to form a “climate contingent” at the rally in Boston.
