Decrying Post’s Veterans Day omission

Dear Editor,
I was disappointed that the recent edition of the Post made no mention of Veterans Day – no coverage of local ceremonies, no acknowledgment of the men and women in our community who have served, and no recognition of the meaning of the day itself. Wayland is a town that takes pride in civic engagement, service, and community values.

Many of our residents (parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends) have worn the uniform. Our schools and civic organizations work hard to teach young people about service and sacrifice. For the Post to overlook the significance of Veterans Day sends the wrong message, especially to our veterans and their families.

Local papers shape community memory. When a paper chooses not to cover an event as fundamental as Veterans Day, it erases the opportunity to honor those who have served and to remind all of us—especially our young people—why their service matters.

I hope that in future years the Post will give Veterans Day the coverage it deserves. Our veterans have earned at least that.
