Dear Editor,

Thank you for the articles in the recent Wayland Post about the decision the town will need to make improvements on its future water supply. In addition to the information in the article some additional considerations that deserve highlighting are: A decision to go forward with the so-called hybrid option will require a new process to remove PFAS, and building a new system for using chloramine as a water disinfectant. The hybrid option also requires continuing dependence on the Happy Hollow Wells. The future level of the aquifer that supports the wells represents a risk that the wells will not have adequate future capacity. The Happy Hollow Wells are at risk for PFAS contamination from a neighboring site, 150 Main Street, with a known PFAS contamination.

MWRA water is from a protected watershed avoiding the risk of a water source dependent on an aquifer that may be unable to source Happy Hallow wells. MWRA has both the technical resources and financial strength to insure in the water meets any new water quality standard for PFAS or other contaminates.
