Mix Up Mix Up

November 16 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
$20

On Sunday, November 16 from 3 pm to 4 pm at the First Parish in Wayland, Arts Wayland is happy to invite you to the next installment in our Berklee Faculty Jazz Series, led by Artistic Director Neil Olmstead, Professor Emeritus at Berklee School of Music. Pianist/keyboardist, singer, composer, arranger Matt Jenson lights up the connection between roots-reggae, Afro-Cuban sounds, and soul-jazz with his Mix Up Mix Up band. The group presents original compositions and creative re-workings of pop, jazz, reggae, and Afro-Cuban songs by Bob Marley, Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Marvin Gaye, George Gershwin, Eddie Palmieri, Buena Vista Social Club, and more. The pure joy communicated between band members, combined with their love of and deep experience with these styles, result in a unique stylistic mash-up that immediately delights audiences of all ages. Imagine the creative interplay between musicians, along with soul-jazz improvisation embedded in the intoxicating Afro-Cuban sounds of Jamaican reggae, in an acoustic/electric jazz setting! It is indeed a groundbreaking format, sophisticated and soulful, with both instrumental and vocal repertoire, that gives nourishment to the mind, body, and soul.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.artswayland.com. Students are free with accompanying paying adult.
