it's uh 106 let's uh call the meeting to order um this meeting may be recorded and if recorded it will be made available to the public on wacom as soon as possible after the meeting uh pursuant to chapter two of the acts of 2025 this meeting will be conducted in person and or via remote access in accordance with the applicable law if this meeting has only remote access no in-person attendance by members or the public will be permitted if this meeting has remote access one may watch or participate remotely with the meeting link that can be found at the website when required by law or allowed by the chair persons wishing to provide a public comment or otherwise participate in the meeting may do so at the meeting location in person or remote public comment should be limited to two minutes per person is there any public comment yes yes we need to introduce ourselves because this is being recorded uh not when we have a poll not when we're all present only if there's some of us up on the screen i believe it's the rule okay okay uh do you want to make a public comment yeah i thought people were going to introduce themselves nope nope okay yeah do the camera is different this time should we do you care where i go yes um i'll look at the corridor 19 term and pitch road um excuse me i'm brad carver uh we have the uh hvac which is really loud so if you could keep your voice up that would be helpful usually not a problem thank you um yeah so i i sent you each um well i sent the board the commission um an email yesterday encouraging you to read an article published last fall about the bridge um as a reminder and as a reminder of what this community has gone through especially in the last uh 50 years or so to keep the bridge historically accurate and um and how much we love it and how much activity we have um done on that bridge besides just driving across and um and some of the comments that were made very early on in the process which were just not not addressed and not cared about even the member of the um board of public works remarking that she could know she loves driving and being able to see out the bridge railings and cannot do so will not be able to do so on this project she didn't know that yet but we know it now um and then today i sent you um i'm sorry i was up till three in the morning and i still couldn't get it done um very long i didn't send you very long but this is a very long document that um all all projects involving roads have to follow if mass dot is in any way involved one of the three ways is they're funding it so they aren't involved here and our town did not follow pretty much any of it including engaging people in the process people um with direct effect by what they're going to do in the process long before they had a design and all the way through the process with a transparent um communication and understanding how decisions are being made and contributing to decisions and including notifying you guys i mean you guys didn't know about the october 9th meeting until after right i mean many boards that should have known about it didn't know about it and that and that was the only public meeting even though we asked can we have another one can people be involved maybe make a committee and just watch you while you're doing your discussion no no no no no never looked at an alternative never called for an alternative proposal and as a result we're going to have a bridge that you're not going to be able to see out of the railings while you're driving by or if you're not tall enough to look out over the railings because it's going to be made with boards they're not going to look the same it's not going to look the same from the water um people are not going to be able to use it the same other than cars um and we don't know how much it's going to be and um the town manager and the select board have argued oh it's a just a small repair job we can do it in-house so it doesn't have to go to town meeting well it was initially a 1.1 million dollar project um they're saying it still is but that initial one was for the original plan which has changed we don't have tar and stuff on the top anymore we're going to have a wood surface i don't know how they're going to do that but um and some other changes and if any changes were made the initial deal was not going to be promised and sure enough um even a month later when mascot responded to the town to the town manager's letter which is sort of reiterating um what the original plan was and that mass dot was going to pay for the labor and they're going to pay for the materials and there's only going to be fifty thousand dollars cost to the taxpayers here in wayland um even mass dot said we will provide one person to oversee the project they're going to need a lot of um of skilled laborers and a um a barge to put this stuff on because you can't do it from above and a lot of work that's going on and we don't know if they're just paying for the blue lamp on the surface of the bridge or the additional uh surface level barriers that will be blocking us from getting to the railing on the east side um and um and a foot or two up from the walkway on the right um or the wooden surface which they finally after a lot of arguing they agreed to would wait on the surface otherwise it would have lasted 20 years and this one's already lasted 34. you could try to wrap it up we do tire we try to keep public comments the two minutes if possible um anyway um we don't know how much it's actually going to be or how much we're going to pay but they've already dpw has already paid over fifty thousand dollars just you know before it's even started just on like consultants and that's uh i hope you can read those things and i've highlighted the parts that are most pertainable to you in red and this was i don't know how long it was originally but it was a lot so thank you thank you thank you is there any other public comment thank you but
uh the next item you generate to review the minutes from march 4th and i think ann has passed those out
does anybody have any changes comments or edits i had uh one on the railroad and rail trail signage on the meeting of the first of the month uh you need it yeah do you need minutes thank you and it was just a little further clarification uh when when marie eisenberg was on zoom attending our meeting um down about five or six sentences in the paragraph where it says marie spoke about this idea i think if just clarify she marie who was on zoom connected with zoom spoke on the idea it almost sounds like she was here in the meeting first you know private personally okay uh so just a little clarification on where she was if you didn't read who attended the meeting in the beginning to see her name there you would wonder uh about that paragraph i'll say she joined the meeting by zoom and spoke about the idea so thank you thank you thank you i'm on page three i had a question about page one public comment um special dispensation to use a steel card jail i thought it was going to be a word it was going to be encapsulated the way i understood doug it was going to be encapsulated with wood oh okay i i i misheard him um so a wood um enclosed steel guard rail yeah so nothing that should look every that's what my letter was i wrote the letter for him um my understanding was everything but the clamps um would visually from the exterior would look like thank you good catch now i have two sets did i take somebody there's two sets of minutes two meetings that were right okay not twice in the last month anything else on the march fourth minutes if there are no other comments on the march fourth minutes can i have a motion to have meeting minutes accepted i'm moved second
all those in favor of approving the march fourth minutes uh camera do we have to do it by voice vote or
because we're all here you can do it by you don't have to call without individually all those in favor say hi okay okay can we look now at the march 25th minutes these are short so hopefully not too much to do under public comment um i didn't hear articles but i think i understand that that is now article 16. i saw that too and i'm not sure how to i mean this is what was said to us i could maybe put it in parentheses i don't think that there's any harm in that say now article 16.
yeah that's fine okay anything else on that um on these minutes
that motion to approve the minutes of march 25th does move second all in favor of approving the march 25th minutes say aye aye aye aye be opposed i'm abstaining because i wasn't here okay one abstention uh so the march 25th meetings are approved the next item on the agenda are the mansion in and dudley woods signage and and we'll address that does anybody need uh copies excellent do you need the list version let's do another agenda an extra agenda in front of me
and so i lost my agenda when i was making at the end is that's why it's not going to tell me
for about or actually that is i'm sorry what's what's not going sorry it's from a bridge project has been removed from that no it was never going to and it will not be going before not waiting for the decision they're just doing it on the run sorry did she say it is or is not okay that had been submitted though that's so interesting okay and you want to address the uh okay so these are our these are our latest um round of signs um which include the changes that were made at our last meeting um let's start with the castle gate pillars the um differences are subtle the michael simpson photo has been made a little bigger so that it's comparable in size to hers and um the where it it says the mansion i think the previous version said the castle so we've changed that and we've added the qr code so that people can go to the website and read more information about the mansion and if they choose um we've also added on the left brown bar wayland historical commission so we get credit for the signs um kay do you want to address the issue of well let me back up and say rick caught the fact that there's a math error on this sign where in the um second paragraph of the copy it says she was 45 years his junior but the dates of their births over on the right hand column don't support that number so um kay maybe can tell us a little bit more about the research she's been doing to try to ascertain evangeline's actual year of birth thank you and that's a good explanation um so i spent most of yesterday and i stayed up to four block this morning trying to figure this out the um as she grows older her birth date changes as a young girl at the age of seven her birth date is 1853 even as a teenager when she's 17 it's 1853 however after that her age changes she starts shaving off the years and by the time that she applies for a passport she's taking 10 years off it's 1862 so um i'm inclined to go with when she's a child when people are giving accurate a fairly accurate uh information because a seven-year-old girl or a 17-year-old girl isn't going to fight that um even on her marriage record she kind of shaves a year or two off so um i would go with 1853 but then that brought up the question well why can't i find a birth certificate so her 1850 census record is in bellingham massachusetts her father is registered to vote in boston in 1854 it still doesn't tell me whether she's born in bellingham or boston and um so i don't know where she was born but i would go with the 1853 because she definitely shows up in boston then she they go to need them they go back to boston and then west roxbury and then finally come out here she comes up on a census is that on a census yes all on census those are the census right so she couldn't exist i mean she wasn't born you know unfortunately i had to leave the grout heard house museum to come home and uh to finish the research and i would have sworn now i have go back to the museum and double check on this that she was two years old in boston but again that doesn't tell me whether she's born in bellingham and whether she's born in boston and also she changed they changed houses if they show up in boston and in the same census here they show up in needham which says to me that they moved because boston with the census was done in may in needham it was done later in the year oh so they probably moved from one community to the other and then as we all know population is so important to towns to get representation so i'm sure they were included when it was done again because they said well you're here now and we're taking the census now so there you are i think we're safe with 1853 b uh when i went and double checked on the ancestry.com and family search and everything else many of them were using the passport date which we know is really a not the correct date but i did find one or two that did use 1853 and they were the ones that had more sources attached to them to prove their point so i think we're safe with 1853 and i don't think anywhere on here we say that she's born in wayland right yes we do oh we do where yeah it's in her first sentence out a little bio she grew up in wayland yeah that's a better word well actually if she's 17 and she's in boston she didn't really go up here either lived lived in wayland or resided visited visited and i think that he would definitely live here well we added that sentence because you wanted it to be clear that she's a wayland girl but maybe she wasn't a wayland girl that's what i'm thinking now too and i think my suggestion would be to just take um take that combine those first two sentences evangeline elizabeth thurston mars simpson's family owned south park from the on dudley pond that makes it clear that they are here in wayland but it doesn't say right born so does that make her 44 years it does but for two years in two months she is 45 years difference just saying um because her birthday is in january his birthday is in november
and what what month did they get married are you asking me to remember something i wasn't paying
attention to i do know and i did look at it but i think it was about 3 30 this morning i looked at it and i don't remember regardless it's a lot of years yes either way i mean you can run it off to 45 or you could say 44 and a half 44 and three quarters whatever all right so i will fix the um her birth date i would change it where it appears right after her name right to i will change 1857 to 1853 right and i'll find the first two sentences to read evangeline elizabeth thurston mars simpson's apostrophe s family owned south park property on deadly pond and the rest will be the same i'm sorry could you say that again to me please i just couldn't hear it evangeline elizabeth thurston mars simpson what uh simpson apostrophe s simpson's family owned south park property on deadly pond so it's essentially combining those first two sentences okay um but just a question if we say evangeline elizabeth thurston mars simpson's family it sounds like the simpson family owns south park does that make sense to anybody didn't it well it was the mars the mars family owned south park he owned the developments on either side of it which he also called south park you could just say event evangeline elizabeth thurston mars is family i mean you just taking simpson off yeah well i mean you'd keep it in the you'd keep it in the heading that but underneath it in this in the smaller print you'd remove it what i'm proposing is not any different from what it already says here so it i mean if what we said is not accurate then it needs to be changed but we named her and then we say her family owned south park yeah but it's no longer going to say her family so i think it is but it is it's going to say okay since family owned south park which to me is the same is stating the same thing but if you feel it's not accurate well it's not not that it's not accurate it's it sounds like because we're giving her the last name of simpson rather than mars although later on you talk about jane mars giving um family land to evangeline for the mansion that's fine with it okay so could we make what if i made a motion to say that with those changes we are done with i have another question i want to ask i i didn't envision the wayland historical commission being so small and in the pond i kind of envisioned it over here underneath is just slightly smaller than town of wayland so that it's connected we don't have to you know we don't even have to refer to repeat the name wayland if we don't want to but we could um underneath so it shows that it's really part of the town i just yeah instead of the location on the map yeah carol tried it there i asked the same question she tried it under town of wayland and she said it was she felt like there were just too many letters to cluttered words too hard to read because they're both sideways she felt it would be more accessible here okay what if it was in a different font like a reverse um instead of the the lighter font on this brown surface so if it was a totally different like like a blue background but so it doesn't look like it's it's pointing to something on the map oh you think it looks like it kind of somebody might think oh is the historical commission like right there i i don't know i just i i kind of like the way it is i mean i i think it makes the wayland historical commission look more prominent the way it is did she consider making it a long ways there in a smaller font than on the same line as town of wayland but to put that but i don't have direction i don't know if she considered that steve old and put historical commission up there in town of wayland down there
yeah i i think it's attractive i just well we're setting precedent for what we're going to be doing
in the future well and this is i i wanted to talk about how we're going to stop the continued distribution of the seal but but let's finish on the on this i just thought it was kind of small even in that position i just thought compared to the rest of the sign you know and it's hard to visualize what it's going to look like on a 24 inch sign versus so you'd like it to be bigger so we i just felt it was as a small your comparison yes okay yeah i think maybe you're right maybe that's why i was trying to do the placement up there is because it didn't wasn't eye catching okay anything else on castle gate okay should we look at the deadly pond sign um you'll see now there are two photos of the camps that's um because the one with the canoers in the foreground this is as big as it can be as big as it can be not get any bigger on this sign it's just not high enough quality so um she and i felt that using both of them might be the right solution because one can be bigger um and between them i think you get a good idea what these little camps and cottages look like is there a reason why she didn't make the canoe one big one bigger and this one with all the land in front of it smaller she can't make the canoe one any bigger that's as big as it can be uh without losing quality that was in what quality quality and that's the 600 dpi one that she's using right right okay i think it's a great choice to use it i don't i don't love where it was placed but i would still approve it that's a comment i would i don't love where it was placed but i i would still approve it to move this forward but um i i think it's i do like it as an image and i think it's it's good to keep it even if it's that size uh look at something i want to make a comment i just want to double check myself i think these black boxes that appear behind some of these are not actually on the sign i think oh okay i think that's a factor of the downloading and printing i was wondering about that okay yeah it doesn't look bright to me without that it would be fine i i yes the captions are are counting us are running over and is that the same with this it is the same okay but yeah then i think it's all fine yeah so in fact there's a slight um shadow around the edges of this little camp photo that gives you the sense that it's popping off the page a little bit but the the black box is not there in the nor around the ice house photo that's great uh caption under the ice house didn't change those to wayland museum and historical society uh oh we meant to yeah yeah she didn't that one got missed yeah she missed that one changed it she changed the chick camp one yeah yeah i don't know i don't remember the map of deadly pond 18 in 1984 information up in the corner but i like it i think that it clarifies all these houses that are now there and the roads and everything else and that's very nice yeah anything else on deadly pond on this one yeah okay no and you did i i talked to ginger and she said you had also talked to her right before and she said it was fine i didn't tell us there yeah yeah all right deadly woods our third sign um you'll see a different um arrangement of the photos down below they were all in the line before i like this better i do too i think it's very nice um and and that is really the only change here oh the wren has changed the the image because we've we figured out the native american projectile point and replaced it with the butterfly i think well that was a couple of rounds ago yeah um changed directions on the stump which looks better rather than facing off the page like he did like she was after the uh dragonfly yeah she's now looked like she's reading the the infinite script and the woodchuck is also looking that same way and the butterfly is flying that way so all right so anything on here that um is bothering you um the photos that are done do we want that closer to the photos or do is it all right up there and the rest of the script i like it okay i think it's fine it gets in there dynamic things hands out yep it's a colorful in the center so the black border around the butterfly image is gone it is gone yeah and again there's a like a little shadow around the edges of that so that it looks like it's sort of laying on top of the others no bees and no bees okay um congratulations yeah you've talked through it and it's well done thank you so much somebody want to make a motion uh to have the signs uh accepted with the edits that we've discussed today i make a motion that we accept the signs with the edits we made today second i will second all in favor aye all opposed congratulations thank you rob is done here man it's a big a big um accomplishment but as we know these signs are not done yet i think there's quite a quite a bit of the road ahead and we did bring up the positioning of them in dudley woods well so we have we have a question on that we have not we don't know where they're going to go but we also don't know apparently according to us told us last week we don't know who the vendor is anymore and carol told me she doesn't know that she can go forward with the project she's got so many other commitments she's made because this should have been done by now so she may have to hand it over to somebody else to finish um so there's a lot of still a lot of issues i think vendor had you talked to well the town had um selected a vendor but um because the one from years ago was fossil that's who did natick yeah but the town this is part of the rail trip signed project okay and the town had put a bit you know put it out to bid selected a vendor and then um according to what rick said last week so much time has gone by and the project is not being done and the vendor the it is the bids have expired and it needs to be now rebid okay so that's another delay according to kelsey the selected vendor was not chassel it was some company in texas i don't know the name of the company but that needs to be rebid okay and the specifications for the signs are somewhat different so carol needs to know which vendor to design the signs for before she made her final design that's right that's my understanding
all right should we move on to the next item um warren article dd which i guess is now
being referred to as article 16 for the town meeting um okay do you want to address that
sorry i'm you've lost me say that again to me i am number five on the agenda warrant article dd
holiday road in orchard lane oh i have nothing to address that just that it was brought up last meeting and um as far as i know i've heard people saying that they would rather have a school there than townhouses and i don't know much more about it that's why i brought it up i was hoping to learn something more about it all i know about it is what's in the warrant the select board is having a public forum yes on this project on april 13th which is a monday 7 15 it's going to be in the old cla room which they are now calling the wayland common room also going to be on zoom at what time 7 15 there was emails that i received within the past day about it yeah i saw that too yeah so the other thing is um i think uh tanya has called me about it uh the concern about getting involved early on because there's a perception in the town that we come in as johnny come lately that we add to the cost of the any project that's being done on town land and we delay projects so to avoid that we need to pay attention to what's going on in town and get involved early on to let them know that we're concerned doesn't necessarily mean we're going to do an archaeology day or demand one but to let them know that we feel that this is a concern and we want to be involved so putting it off to later isn't necessarily a good plan i guess is we should let them know early on in the discussion maybe at this uh public meeting that we're concerned about it and i think in the minutes um and you could say that the article dd is now article 14 or whatever its number is so that officially the change is in the record and i last week took a ride to see if we could spot that parcel and it was kind of hard to spot exactly wasn't it rick yes yeah i guess it's right at the end of holiday road isn't the cemetery at the end of holiday road it's jewish cemetery the cemetery lies to the south of this acreage right and this acreage also backs up to i can never think of the name of the other street that comes from orchard orchard lane it also is at the end of the curve of orchard lane so it connects to both right they're calling it holiday but a lot of people on orchard feel that there's a strong possibility of entrance coming from orchard lane which is they're concerned i would like somebody to actually tell me exactly where to go i'm sorry i would like someone to tell me exactly where to go to get on that land how to get on the land well uh if it's town owned land it's the best pull it up on you can pull it up on the google map and it'll show the end the where the holiday road connects with it and the fact that it also borders orchard lane right i don't think there are any trails on it it's just wooded yeah it's not easy to navigate the past any other comments or discussion on article 16 other than we need to stay on top of it yeah okay uh moving on uh 250th revolutionary programs uh somebody want to address that well is this your work again uh uh it's sort of uh jalen's and my and your work okay so this is a historical commission project for rev 250 and it's going to be on friday april 10th and i just heard from jay at the first parish where it's being held that he is interested in getting help for um the refreshment table he said that the first parish will be willing to have coffee and maybe small bottles of water or something but and it since it's her birthday it seemed appropriate to have a birthday cake there um so we need people to volunteer to command the refreshment table otherwise um he and jerise are have worked together talked about where to meet they're going to meet on the first floor meeting room if it gets too crowded they can move it easily upstairs to the sanctuary he has shown her on view both locations and she opted for the first floor and then um we right now have about 20 people signed up for it and uh he is putting it in his newsletter the historical society is putting it in their newsletter uh and has put pr work into the post there's an article about the wpa work in way wayland that was done at the time and so um hopefully that will get more people in the town newsletter today too and it was in the okay i haven't seen the town newsletter today okay so hopefully that means that we will have a crowd and that um it she her price on this which rev 250 is picking up not us uh is uh depends on how many people are in the audience that's interesting yeah so um does the price go down if there are more people no it goes wouldn't that incentivize us as as the payers to get more people in the door interesting i don't believe that's the way it works i have to go back and look at it it's been a while since i've looked at it um it's because she's got to project out to a bigger audience she's reaching more people um she says she's five four so she's a petite lady and uh that's why we did not choose the sanctuary to begin with because if she's up by the pulpit she says i'm not sure i would be seen but there's a nice little platform in front of the pulpit that she could stand that and so uh she's uh really terrific i hope that people here will volunteer to help with refreshments i think uh the rev 250 will pay for the birthday cake but i'm not sure whether they'll pay for supplies like paper plates and forks and things like that uh i have a feeling they might though they they they could do that do they want cookies as well as they do watch the base and i don't know how the health department feels about homemade goodies there or whether they have to be store-bought it is a town event uh technically you can't serve homemade stuff it's ribble we can buy so we can buy some cookies yeah but i think that that's something that the commission maybe should pick up rather than asking about 350 to do it pay for goods maybe because then they can use it in another program that's left over but um cookies and so forth i'd be glad to contribute i'm going to be out of town for the on the april 10th so i won't be able to attend but i'd be more than glad to uh contribute thank you um what do i want to say so who who is available to work the refreshment table i guess is my question i can help with that and i told jay i would help him with setup and i think you already asked for volunteers because i have written down volunteer to help with parking had you already asked oh that was for the cemetery walk i have that sit separately a sit-up table but on the 10th i have helping with parking i don't know well helping with parking initially was for the um the cemetery walk as well as setting up the table okay i i have it written on separately i haven't talked to jay about parking do we need to contact the uh trinitarian church to see if it's all right the parking lot well if if you expect there to be that kind of overflow then you would need to talk to them um people can also park along the driveway to town building and on a friday night there shouldn't be anything going on here right okay town building it seems to be the appropriate place yeah i think that the combination of behind the preschool along the road and and the road coming into here it's you probably hold 75 cars yeah okay there's always a safety building as well i mean it's not long a walk oh that's true the course yep perception but so that's all public parking i don't have to talk to anyone about that okay it's also parking behind the police thing well that's what she was just mentioning yes hear of that that's friday night
i'm sorry at least you have to talk up i don't have my hearing aid in today
i believe the unitarian church is having an event that friday night that's our event that's our event that's we're talking about the same two things april 10th it's the trinitarian church that we friday night april 10th there's only one event at first parish and it's this historic play it's this project if you'd like to take a flyer yeah we have a game thing it's part of a fundraiser i don't know
it's next friday the night it's called it's the town it's the town yeah the poker night
dining for dollars six three to nine with food where is that being held at the unitarian first parish part of their dining for dollars uh well it's not on the calendar um i'm going to send an email to karen right now okay
um i think why is it maybe if somebody's home
usually at the church i don't know what you're talking about yeah oh again it's a big group that's a content they were usually that's a great day then charlie so i think from them i would like to go oh good good so uh
hey do you want to address the cemetery revolution tour yeah let me just so and you said you were
going to help at the church yeah i told jay i would help him with setup and then i'll be there to okay and brad you're willing whatever contribute i'm going to be out of time i know you're going to be out but i'd be glad to contribute and i would i'll do both i'll be there okay i'll shine up and i'll get there i'll buy cookies so i can help either with
we will be setting up about an hour early so we have access to the church to set up the refreshment
table at that point i can help with that or i can help with parking so whichever um cemetery tour has been delayed because folks theater cemetery walk or tour has been delayed the uh folks theater said they wanted to use they had a number of people who wanted to do the re reenacting they're not available for this date so um it has been postponed it's not off the table everything is ready to go we have that's another one of our projects and we have um we have a map showing where the um revolutionary soldiers who will be talking live we have a map showing where all the uh soldiers that are buried up at north cemetery participated in it goes from fort ticonderoga to new jersey to rhode island to boston so uh and springfield are the big major ones then we also have a handout that um is a bunch of uh letters and you have to find the name and of course the names are listed on the side of the revolutionary soldiers that are buried in north cemetery it's a game for the kids or adults i love those games so um that's ready to go everything in the stories are ready to go there are going to be six speakers six reenactors and so forth so it's um the only thing we need is a full troop of um reenactors and of course the date has not been set at this point because we're also talking with um history at play to come out and do uh racial revere and that racial revere to talk about the women that were left at home to take care of the hearth and manage the households and so on and so forth and the discovery of the first spy who was part of the sons of liberty so um that is um will also be in will be in september probably the first part of september shortly after school opens how do people i just want to get a feel do people prefer it on a sunday afternoon or saturday afternoon or during the week and evening program any preferences i prefer the weekend i think sunday afternoon is a nice time for program i think a sunday afternoon is a nice time for a program like that i do too i mean that was my first choice but i i agree i would ask um so anyway uh the till we have a date on the revolution your participation which you so generously offered last time is on hold so we know when the cemetery walk is and also the cemetery the um rachel revere because she's going to do it at folks again they have kindly offered their stage because they were so impressed with her last time and um when we have a solid date i'll let you know and again we'll need help with parking that rick did for us last time so i think that brings you up to date on the 250th okay um i just wanted to ask uh i may have missed it did you say what time frame the cemetery walk will be it's in the fall okay thank you we're thinking early september but we haven't set that down yet got it as soon as we have rachel revere in place then because the cemetery walk is more easily changeable date thank you uh next item the joint program with hrdeic well again they reached out and i offered them a program about the native americans here in sudbury they did not particularly care for the topic that this woman has done research on which is um cato who supposedly signed the treaty that allowed people to inhabit this area and she wanted something else and i said then it's up to you because i don't have any other contacts wait a minute um can i ask you do they do they want it specifically to be about the native people or is it just a
a blanket project they ask specifically for an indigenous person to be here to they want to work
with an indigenous yes right and um i have since found another card i have that maybe i'll reach out to them but they want it to how did she put it she wants it to be of interest to everybody in town and um she felt that this was too narrow a history project so she what is it she adopt the project of the seal and work with the same person that that the well i have officer worked with yeah i've thought about i've seen that it's the seal did change for the 370 this is still inaccurate it's still inaccurate up in it is yes and what it is is a seal didn't change the flag changed they have a flag that is in the state house that sherry ann has seen right and that uh weyland weyland and so why haven't we changed the seal because it's not the seal it's a flag yes it's our flag and it has a man and a woman puritan and it has a male and female indigenous person and the tippies are gone and uh i think he's waving his handkerchief for something i'm not sure why but he is in this one too i just i don't understand who why why can't we get on this project with the with the seal that's what i don't understand i don't see any reason why we can't but that isn't what i was asked for okay because i because they were in fast toward ever since that michael and i had made i made comment to his assistant uh administrator and said couldn't we use the flag up there instead of that seal which is so inappropriate and i was told that it would be passed on to him and i have no idea what it was okay it just seems like they're looking for a project to lobby and this is a perfect one yes and there's a native person who already was
engaged with weyland and interested in this it seems very strange i have suggested that and um
i have not heard back you know what i would suggest because i think kind of veering off the topic of what's on the agenda i think it's something that needs to be discussed my suggestion would be that i put that on the the agenda for the next meeting as something to discuss because we're the kind of veering off what what's on the topic if that's all right except that was a topic for the hrdeic the revision of the seal no any project any project any project and amanda's suggesting this might be the project rather than a speaker so um and i was thinking the same thing amanda i just haven't had a chance to talk to carol i mean a woman would want to speak you know i mean if if if she had a vested interest in knowing it would change our seal she did come to the ceremony at the at the precinct so well that's a different person but i'm saying she can work with that person like hey right i agree you know there are other people that might be more willing to to work we just have to find a topic that um yeah okay this committee wants to work with us on it's fine i just i just i i just feel like it hasn't been lobbied for the hard enough it seems very strange to me that this is anyway where i'm sure i'm happy to pass it on thank you i've been thinking about it too that was my first reaction is okay you didn't like this person maybe this is a topic that you would like instead okay but if anybody else has any contact with indigenous groups that uh i can point them to to start working on a topic beyond this i mean like to give them two or three choices okay yeah i've attended a number of lectures in the library by um even renee hayes and um she is a wonderful lady and we've been talking about how uh wayland has different people coming to town to live and it's been very very interesting and she's she runs the meetings so i don't know if she's on this committee or not but she's already talking at the library oh yeah she's she's i want i attended at least three or four of her lectures and she has another one coming up
she's not a native person okay and i was going to say she's not the native person that they want
oh they want a native yes sure okay and i think the fact that the library is already working with her and i'm not sure if it would be redundant to do it again but they must know about her because she's at the library right right and i i have seen uh the people that i've been talking to on this committee at those meetings so they're well aware of her but no i don't know who's on the committee i don't know the individuals okay so all right thank you uh for that suggestion amanda and i'm done okay uh the next item is the report on the municipal project team letter on chairman's bridge amanda yeah i wrote this letter i i didn't send it because i wasn't i i sent it to sherry ann but i wasn't sure about because she was the last chair but i wasn't sure about open meeting laws and all that kind of stuff so i brought it here to be approved first trying to remember uh i know this discussion of whether this is going to sherman's bridge will be at the annual town meeting the meat town meeting now is what's the date of it it's uh just heard that it wasn't going to be there's never been an article for it to go before i don't haven't seen the bullet and i hasn't come initially it was supposed to be no it never was there i had heard it was a secret article related to the bridge none of them on this project um so i guess i guess the question i have is um do we need to act on this today or should this roll over to the next that you asked us to send i wrote it i would like to send it because he worked so hard on behalf of the sherman's bridge just showing i think we voted that we would write a letter and so this was the letter i wrote i just want to know if you want us to read it now and give you anything yeah i i had planned on sending it earlier but i anyway here it is now you can read it afterward if you want i i mean but or you could just read it through quickly i think if we're going to send it as a commission we all need to initially i was just going to send it as me because i didn't i wanted to get it out there but um but i'm you know listing that i as a member of the commission but then i oh i guess that well that's maybe is that the first question then is this a letter i don't know i appreciate her from you so now that i've waited until this long that we're at the meeting i might as well be from the whole commission i i i wanted to just get it out as soon as possible but um and i was going to email it um and as well as put it in the mailbox i think you can i think you can send it around but nobody can respond okay thank you say you just you just on that right when you send it out just say thank you for your information please do not at all okay next time i know i think removing the steel guard rails i thought they were just encasing them you see them did i say it says removal of steel guard rails oh shoot those are the ones on a surface oh oh yeah okay the ones up at the top versus underneath okay i think you need to say where yeah like tell me where okay the first bullet that you have the first bullet okay i think actually they are removed it's it's yeah it says guardrails versus this ports those are removed okay and and i think this is what doug had on the piece of oh and maybe that's where that's where we got where man got it steel yeah so the so the steel guard rails are being removed it's the steel beams below that are being in case oh supposedly that's that's what i understood did i get that wrong if i got that wrong but i don't know that that isn't what i understood but then i'm i could be wrong i guess i could send it to doug maybe contacting that first for approval before i send it out to get the facts straight what's what's been removed and what's been encased yeah these the three things he he had on his list were these numbered three on the second page yeah inclusion of the conduit installation of the kiosk
and the streetlight that's what he wanted is what he left with us that day he was here
i suppose i could leave it as is too and get a response from from from the team and see what they say they might say no that's not what we agreed to well unlike the sedbury commission which is very involved with materials that are being used on the bridge we opted to go with um the historical environment than elements around including the field the historic field it's a really good letter amanda yeah i think it's very well written very well written does mr fickle have a title no i i wasn't really sure who to send it to be honest i kind of saw his name amongst on the list of um the dpw list and he does have a title but i just should i list it i think it's probably but i don't know no sure that where what his title is on the project team but i he has it on dpw's website he has a title i'd probably list his project manager it's his first name all right i asked can't remember but this is sort of a child but this is what i think down at the bottom maybe saying he's planning to submit but because that's what he somebody else he was planning to submit it okay and he hadn't already done it it's a tell me if i knew that what and since you're not i'm doing it yeah apparently it's it kind of covers that base a little better um yeah and i you can read it i i just i was uh oh dpw project manager it's on the website okay or the that's right and does it say his first name oh so dear mr paul patioli carl oh yeah mr paul patioli and up here i'll say dpw project manager under project manager or yes project the ball up in the top in the inside of grass put the fall up there and then you can still say dear mr okay fine so it will look like this like this variant okay everybody yeah i think it's well done changes up top we uh vote to offer as a mandate to go ahead and send it out so this will be from the commission so yeah so i'll i'll sign it oh do we have commission letterhead if it's commission and your chair has to sign it okay so i forward it to you yeah and then i contact somebody from the town who puts it on letterhead oh i have letterhead oh for us i can do that for you okay i can do it before we leave today okay you can just send the document a word document to both me and ann not in very sincerely wayland historical commission so we would put brad carver chair when historical commission yeah so if you can just send that as a word temporary chair whatever yeah interim chair yeah a pdf momentary not a pdf because you need to put it on so can it do you do google sheets google docs no okay all right i'll figure it out i can you i can take the copy from a google doc and put it on letterhead and send it to brad because for some reason i tried to transfer today the word and then i couldn't that document i couldn't alter it it was it was um like well yeah yes yes so um anyway i'll send it to ann and then we'll work it out from there it'll all work out thank you for doing the letter it's yes amanda offered so of course i picked up on that right away
uh the next agenda item is uh house plaques oh i'm sorry yes thank you um can i get a motion
to have uh the letter approved as edited to be sent by me as interim chair so moved second all in favor aye all opposed yeah approved thank you very uh next the house plaques report which is me and i can report that we have no new applications so uh did you follow up with the nasa story that um on the topic that i sent you that email that i sent you no i did get that but i have not followed up on that yeah uh next item is the cemetery project report and possible presentation um i communicated with josh last week uh and he indicated that he believed he would have all the revisions done to what what would be the bid document uh by this week i haven't heard back from him uh yet but uh i'll try to i don't want to bug him too much but there is some urgency but i will follow up with him again um and again the intent is that once josh has done that we reviewed it uh i'll get it to kelsey kelsey will put to put together the bid package and it'll go out to bids um so that's on my uh plate and i will follow up on that in terms of a possible uh presentation um i guess sherry and do you want to or you want to raise that or discuss that go ahead um well the discussion had come because it was interest in uh from folks in the community too of how to keep our our tombstones looking good and i'm concerned about that because i've got one at north cemetery but uh so since josh and rachel have worked on our town once we wondered if uh about them doing a presentation on on about gravestones and how you clean them or how you what you have to do to put them back together when they're broken and just a general information thing on taking care of our our cemeteries so i don't know just to throw it out there you know i think a presentation is a good idea my concern with either using josh or rachel are they're terminated contractors and i i i think that would be a little awkward to have them come back and make a presentation after they've been terminated from the project i just but it was their was it their request to have it terminated we didn't terminate it it was mutual it was mutual yeah so i don't plus they also do a class on how to clean uh tombstones i would think that they might be interested in pursuing that might be good publicity for another project for them anyway we did something i do think it's a little awkward though why do you feel it's awkward i don't feel it's awkward at all because they didn't we hired them based on certain terms of an agreement that they failed to yeah they they breached the contract yeah right but then you're rewarding them for for breaching a contract i i don't know it seems just a a little strange to me i would think that because they broke not broke but terminated the contract that they would like to be supportive of our cemeteries and would like to get goodwill by doing yes i don't disagree with you but i i i just feel like you're it's kind of like rewarding a child for bad behavior it just doesn't make sense to me i but i think it's a great idea to bring somebody in and you're the most recent group that has been in our cemetery knows the condition of our cemetery i i don't know if that's mona acquired for teaching people how to clean i i don't i i don't know i i mean i it's more than cleaning though we're asking them how they did the repairs what they use but i i think other people can speak to that okay when we have a suggestion for i haven't researched it so no not off the top of my head but no would they be paid for this are we asking them to do it for free
well i'm just going to say the reason why they couldn't finish it up is he got very sick
the thing was there was more to it than that but you're absolutely right that was really and that had a lot to do with it i think yeah so i don't think it was just them there were a lot of there were a lot of other factors as well yeah there were other factors to it because i remember we know what the other factors are he had the email or something no no i mean yeah some of it had to do with their cash flow problems they literally there were times he could not put gas in the truck to get here and at the beginning of the contract i mean was camping in our backyard yeah so
because they were a very small scrappy company they just didn't have the depth
or the resources to get off to a good start but it isn't because they did a bad job or it isn't because they weren't doing no the quality of their work i think that's what i thought it was fine yes um they just couldn't keep up with the they overestimated what they can do it's what they well i don't think they i don't think they priced it properly yeah and then they just kept digging themselves into a financial hole because they couldn't keep up and they couldn't spend the money to do the work so it just they got further and further behind it right so the termination wasn't because they the only bad thing they did is underestimating what what they needed to complete the job basically in other words financially or uh not because they didn't have the skills or because they weren't doing a good but didn't we provide them with quite a bit of money for the third of the job or the quarter of the job that they did do right they were they were paid for the work they did we paid them what they what was owed them yeah yeah so i don't think that that was that they did a bad job which is why i'm willing to continue to interact with them well i'd like to re-ask my question are we planning to pay them for this or do we think they would come and do it for free that would depend on the person negotiating with them i guess we would have to find a price and if it's a price we can't afford or if it's something the rep 250 isn't interested in supporting then you know we would find out but first we have to find out if they're willing to do it and be what the cost would be before we go ahead with anything else i guess i guess my aside from my previous comments i i think the first priority is i we have to get the report from them so we can get this thing rebid so i think that has to be done first um if you would like me to approach josh or rachel uh if that's a consensus of the committee after we get the bid documents um yeah i'm glad to do it when were we expecting the documents josh told me we'd get them this week ah what impressed me about josh's work he really cares about what he was doing because one time rick and i uh were up in the cemetery when he was there and he had uncovered by surprise he didn't know they were there under the ground broken headstone from some other right and he really was concerned about that and you know the way he approached it was caring i thought so what happened to him getting sick i think so do you still object because you think they have failed well i thought that i thought that they bit off more than they could chew and that they didn't i didn't i don't know how professional it all was but but i think they're nice people i mean and i actually follow them on facebook i i i think they do do good work when i just i don't i'm a little conflicted about it that's all but i mean and that's why i let off by saying i'm a little uncomfortable with it i mean my background is construction contracts and usually when a contractor gets terminated you don't continue the relationship you don't go back to them right i understand that but i didn't think that this was a contentance or a bad product it was just poor judgment on their part about what they could accomplish for what they did and everybody seems to like them and they're you know they came up the very first time saying that they have this class that they're willing to teach people how to keep their own or somebody else's markers clean and so forth and and i know i've had some people from the community ask me how do i keep my it's clean so oh wow this is a good opportunity to talk about that and how how they reassemble uh a really broken marker because i don't think a lot of people understand all the effort that has to go into it and how they have to support it and so on and so forth well i guess to ann's point though i mean if if we are approaching them about it we're going to need to decide in advance if we're prepared to pay them for pay them for the time well we could afford it in the next fiscal year which is start july 1st
so it's up to the committee whether they think this is a program they want to have or maybe we don't
want to have it it's fine with me too i'm it was a program that was suggested go ahead suggested and i think regardless of who we would have to do it i think it's an important program because it puts the commission out in the spotlight concerning cemeteries which is part of our responsibility uh let me let me throw out an additional or different suggestion and that is assume we get this project rebid we could have the new contractor do the program and in that situation the new contractor would already be on site and could actually show stones that uh he or she is working on well you're assuming the new contractor is familiar enough to give a class on how to clean stones over yeah yeah i mean not all contractors do that and so um we can table it for the next fiscal year if you want and uh follow up there may be some funding from the rev 250 this year so i don't know whether or not that's a good consideration for payment so that we're not handling the whole amount because i don't know how much they charge to do a program like that why don't i put it on the agenda for next month and by then with hope we'll have the bid and you know you can um make sure that there are any hiccups on getting the bid package out because to me that's the most important thing we got to get the project up and running because let me put it this way if josh does not come through with the uh documents i'm i'm not in favor at all of asking him to present something so let's get the documents first you might also want to do some homework on how much it costs to have a so that we we have a better idea when we go out looking for somebody is this a reasonable cost or are they overcharging us or are they undercharging there's some checking on that and report back okay all right um archaeology lab report wait a minute i'm sorry can i go back to that for a moment sure um if we decide to do that program you might want to reach out to the gpw cemetery uh commission or i don't know whether it's a subgroup of the dpw uh or not but i believe in they were upset that we were looking for this initially without communicating for them with them about it well i don't remember that they were upset i i just know that they're not um they didn't want us using volunteers for our own um to you know check out some of the cleaning on our own extensive list so uh but i don't think they would object wait a minute somebody else to involve them hey it's it would be important to connect with joe yeah yeah because we we had a uh coordination meeting with them at north cemetery when uh josh was starting the first time and if we're going to do a presentation we can just inform them that we're getting going to do it see if they have any comments okay archaeology
all right you guys send out flyers for the friday event that you believe you're the francis perkins
they're going to be gone i'm just holding this here this has been scheduled something's scheduled since like october yeah we'll so we'll sort it out
he must be a member of the first parish right yeah yeah so has he probably talks to karen and and
and sent an email to karen so i'm sure he'll hear okay all right archaeology in the lab we have um two very consistent volunteers rick is one sandy coy is another one except she's not been feeling good the last couple of weeks and she hasn't been able to come in but i go when i can with this leg and uh work is is going on with rick do you want to say what you're working on in castle hill castle hill miscellaneous box there is plastic bags that are falling apart it's very difficult to figure out what was in each bag and i'm going to need some uh expert assistance um as tanya helped me this morning um i in the absence of tanya and amanda in the lab i had worked on the russell's site and not having any small boxes to put that in i in the process of working through them i had to put a box number and a bad number so i just continued on mixing them in with the other boxes so we we have some big boxes that now have a mixture of castle hill and russell's site artifacts so if there's a desire to get some smaller boxes um nothing that i've done can't be undone they would just have to be redone and we could put the vessels artifacts in a smaller box if we are able to get the boxes so i spoke with kelsey to well i tried to speak with kelsey today i put in the request a month ago for new bags and boxes she couldn't speak with me so i don't know if i expected actually to go to the lab and to find them in the gym and they weren't there so i asked the front desk if she had put in the order i don't even know if she actually then put it in the in the end even though submitted it so um i that's what i'm finding out whether or not i'm glad that rick didn't run out of bags because that would have been a problem um but i'm gonna follow up she said she had her assistant tell me that she would email me today so i's hoping after this meeting i'll see an email from her um you know how much that um bill would well i stuck to the original amount that the commission had approved for me and it did mean that we couldn't include very many boxes apparently there's more money in the budget and i might as well order more boxes they were the smaller size boxes are considerably more expensive um i guess they're more like custom and um so the question is do we really need them in different boxes um visually it's not necessary they've all got numbers they've all been catalogued but we can find them in the box that they're in um however you know visually would look more attractive it it um it might also feel more logical if it's in a different box um but that's so that's just up to the commission right i think there's another reason for having individual boxes because when you mix them and they're fine when you put them away but then as people use them or go through that they get easily intermixed or confused and if they're in their own box it's less likely that something will get go missing or something like less likely that there's human error when refiling something or when pulling something right yeah i'd rather have the russell's garden center in its own box then we should invest in the smaller boxes which um i can add more to my order they were they were not you know getting very many for our money but um but they do have them and they will fit in the cabinet nicely um so because those shelves aren't as high as the exterior shelving well i i suggest my suggestion is to go ahead and order them okay so if you can i make a motion to to possibly i mean i i feel like off the top of my head like one box is like thirty dollars so um you know they're different prices if i if it's eight and a a half by 11 but there's a range and it's maybe like from 24.99 to 35.99 well i mean we have quite a number of small collections so if we want to do that for all the small collections i mean even just 10 boxes that's going to be 350 dollars so um which is more than i i think the the last amount we agreed to was 300 and something so um that included mostly bags and and i think i ordered just a couple like two boxes because amanda do so we we previously authorized the expenditure yeah we for a smaller amount um and that again i don't know if that order was placed but it um i think we agreed to 300 and something it was like 320 something maybe it's in the notes and if you have them still but um mostly that was when i when i put together the order it's mostly bags and it was maybe two boxes two custom boxes or something like that two of these smaller boxes um so if we want to increase if i if the order hasn't been placed i'll just increase the order um if not i'll place a second order just for more boxes um of varying sizes i think that sounds fine i guess it's just a question of how much money we have oh we had we have still 600 and some change like a little bit 620 or something i think right do we want to authorize a total of 400 for bags and boxes would that would that be we'd only be able to get in in addition to the original agreement or or instead of uh a total of 400 for both the prior authorization wouldn't be enough that would only get that two more boxes or something you know maybe two and a half boxes that's why i was asking what the price was because um we spent 400 right 400 plus no no previously previously yeah i think it was approved three something uh those are all those black binders oh you're talking about a totally different order okay sorry right what we have already spent we bought bags and we have bought um archival binders for there that are all now on the shelf i don't know whether they're yeah they're there i pulled the number i got the number from from finance so how much was they asked but they give me a breakdown of what each thing why there was 400 because i couldn't remember but 300 was for the archival binders okay so and then the others i think was for the bags or something else that pens or something that we also ordered so they have cut our budget to 225 but they will allow us to spend a thousand dollars out of the general fund so that's why we have 600 that we could give to amanda to order the smaller bags if we so inclined to do so or we could have a program if that's what we decided we wanted to do but it's getting close to the end of the year and i'm thinking let's spend the money where we need it right now we have a new fiscal year coming up july 1st and we can do our program planning our program through that fiscal year if we want to do one or two programs just to keep ourselves in front of the public so they understand what we're doing but i think that makes sense i mean if we we have the immediate or need for the need for the boxes and if we need the boxes and we have the funds i would i would say that we should go ahead and order them okay so i'll just remain within the but within that amount that we have so that you know if we have no program coming up like the cemetery program um i don't know if we need to limit her on the amount from our budget like say 300 or six another 600 or whatever well amanda could you do this uh by for the next meeting could you put together a budget for us and the number of boxes you need the cost and then we can authorize it rather than having the order though now well the ideal is to put the order in now because may is the next meeting right and then you only have um june is when we have to have it spent and if it takes this month for something to go through maybe it's better react today rather than next month okay well then should we have an upper dollar limit so that's what i'm saying i'm not sure you need to set a limit for her because we don't have we're not spending it on anything else i i have the constraints of what the number is anyway there's you're not spending um let's see that if if we spent 400 so we have 800 approximately 800 in the budget maybe yeah i was told seven something but yeah i was going to say maybe something but yeah so just don't go over yes i was thinking i mean i i don't i i'll try to err on the side of be conservative and why don't we ask for an appointment and i'll go with you to kelsey and we'll make sure we have an appointment and we'll find out what happened okay she didn't feel that was necessary initially a month ago she said we could do it all by email so i didn't meet with her then but it looks like it didn't happen so i could ask again um can we rely on you to go ahead and get those ordered then yeah i'll get your 700 down or 700 okay so do we have to vote on that uh sure does somebody want to make a motion to authorize amanda to spend up to 700 for additional supplies including boxes i'm in move that we authorize amanda to spend 700 for the watson's okay a little second
because you can spend less if you want
i'm going to do up to and i'll second just okay all in favor any opposed okay beth all right thank you uh rick railroad and rail trail signage we have had two zoom meetings with um faye kelsey bonnie gossels and myself uh to update the current status of the signs one was on march 23rd the other was march 30th um as i mentioned at our last meeting the sign vendor uh can no longer keep the prices that they quoted and when they were the successful bidder so kelsey says the signs need to be rebid um dcr has still not approved the signs for west of old sudbury road between between and including the depot and through 20. so michael mccall and tom faye did not want to authorize us to fabricate the signs for the depot and west of there uh bonnie gossels made the argument that um we we should go ahead and fabricate them but just not install them but um apparently uh and michael mccall are reluctant to spend town money unless they have a guarantee that dcr will approve the signs so um it appears that the rebed will include our two uh w w woods and w pond signs from the castle gate sign um i think it would be helpful although the subject of foundations is not going to be discussed until our next zoom meeting which will be on april 10th i think it would be advantageous if we have a clear idea of where the three historical signs castle gate and the w wood signs will be located mike faya is supposed to join us who's been invited to join us on that april 10th meeting and i hope there'll be some clarification on that from our last meeting uh they were saying although the town has a contract to install the foundations for the signs they think that there will be flexibility on on the location but i'm not sure of that so i think it would be helpful to take you know the castle gate sign is going next to the pillars right yes they can decide which side and then the dunley woods signs i think it would be advantageous if we have a clear idea of where we would recommend that the signs be located uh and from my knowledge um the contractor doesn't know that all of the signs will not be located along the rail trip at least that was my last conversation with mike fail which was a couple at least a couple weeks ago
so um con fe will be pleased to know that we have finally voted to approve the three signs today with
with the changes and he's anxious to put that together um so uh it's great um see what else so as as i said earlier in this meeting it's still not clear whether the when the signs are redid whether it would go to the same texas contractor the one that did last time or whether it might go to foster apparently there are minor changes in tweaking the sign specifications and you might know more about than i do but fonts colors textures i don't know those details that carol uh as i understand it carol can't finalize the signs until that's right that's right that's all i know too but rick i thought dcr was um dictating the color scheme they did so how can the vendor change the color schemes i think the i think the specifications are more subtle than the general fonts and colors i don't know all the details yeah but uh there was a great deal of frustration uh that pcr has not approved the signs for the depot and rest of there uh my understanding is that the state will be saving that part of the rail trail between old sideway road and route 20 as part of the same contract for extending the trail west of route 20 but that project i don't think will take place until next year at the earliest so i can understand why they don't want the signs installed because the contractors might damage them but i don't understand and i did ask the question at the meeting why as of dcr who would be the text and be able to do the signs and bonnie also said why not we you know fabricate everything it wants store the signs until they're ready to be installed and then install it but apparently uh the powers that be don't want to go ahead and have authorized spending town money until dcr actually approves those signs yeah but which of those signs west of like the depot are going to be on town property not on dcr property bonnie made that argument also yeah why the sign ag depot could be on town property at the depot the one at the engine terminal could be on the 50 000 square foot parcel of town land there the one that rustles could be on town land uh near the new community center uh the other sign welcome to wayland at the sudbury town line is supposed to be identical to the welcome to wayland western town line but apparently there was a reluctance to uh fabricate the signs until dcr gives their final approval and tom faye has made many attempts to get dcr to interpret the sign in person so yeah but they don't need to be approved by the dcr because they're on they're going on town property well i don't understand that wants to keep on good terms with dcr because they may be dealing with dcr on other side are we getting more funds from the state for the price increase that dcr has forced us into bonnie made the argument uh why not have dcr pay for the signs if they're going to delay them but uh i haven't heard that wasn't there a deadline we had to use the money by initially there was a deadline so it was hurry up and get the signs into production and now it's just the opposite we can't spend the money until dcr gives their approval and there's a great deal of frustration rick every time i'm in bourbon down route 20 i see the signs and the paving in sudbury and i i don't understand why they got it so fast it's a separate project it's a separate project but it's the same people funding it isn't it that was a combination of ever source bearing the power lines and then dcr coming in once ever source was done to pave the trail this project here as i understand it is a mass dot project where dcr is the park and um it's it's a different project the sunbury project supposedly is done although i still see orange barrels at the route 20 crossing near the dunkin donuts and near the section house that sunbury is trying to acquire from nta but but there are separate projects dcr is involved in both being the person that is dealing with or persons that are dealing with an interpretive signage are different for whalen than than the people that we're dealing with the suburb signs oh we got the wrong group i hope they're not mistaken about that that don't lose the money well michael mccall has already done all the paperwork for accepting the what was it twenty twenty thousand dollars the earmark money banning of uber
helpful in getting securing so that's not in jeopardy um
i understand it there was such a bigger number when sarki was talking about the sign slush fund back years ago yes it was it was like over a hundred thousand dollars well we're still some of us at least are still hoping that some of that can be spent on an archaeological investigation of the engine house site if there's anything left over once this sign project gets done which has apparently become a lot more costly than we had thought initially okay well thanks for keep uh keep plugging away uh the other topic that i might mention is um the brush clearing that we're hoping to have on the first weekend in may may 2nd and may 3rd talk to marianne maloney at transfer station she's going to try to get us the containers the big issue this year is that there are several trees that have come down broken or are leaning just east of the water tank foundations and these were trees that came down during the winter one tree limb is resting partly on the ground near the water tank foundations another tree came down on top of that tree and uh i had talked to courtney burrington who's the owner of the land where the trunks of the trees are uh they had fallen across the stone wall and i'm talking to him it's the owner of the land on who's where the trees have fallen that's responsible for cleanup not the owner of the trees so the owner of the land who is the combination of well mbta which doesn't and there's a dcr but not dcr an eversource easement for the power and there's an ever one of those green eversource sticks right next to them eversource had a brush clearing contractor come out in early january to do some cleanup they did not touch these two fallen over trees so it's it's a real tangled if you walk west of the depot before you get to the water tank foundation you'll see all this mess one of the volunteers who was on our january 1st walk on the whale trail came out the day after and helped do some of the brush cutting which was on a big pile underneath one of the limbs that's leaning we can i'm reluctant to have volunteers do any cutting of any supporting trees because we don't want them to get hurt literally you have they have to know what they're going on well we can clean up some of this loose brush that's nearby and almost under that um so that's an issue another question is do we want to continue taking the dirt out of the siding back by whaling power equipment as we have been trying to do for the past couple years to clean that out so we we've we've been working on that for ever since we started up on covid so if we continue that i'll have to talk to joe ducette and see if they can provide containers for dirt again and then hopefully get joe ducette to have his crew come out and brush mow the area between rails and the engine house site as they did last year uh and that saved our volunteers an awful lot of work of hand cutting thank you sorry if there's we we talked about opportunities to publicize the brush clearing at our last meeting i have updated the um website
which is a sort of a minor piece of pr because i don't know how many people go to our website but
um and i will i told you i would do a flyer and i'm sorry i should have had it ready to bring today but i will get that to you um i was going to say um because social has always published that it's going to happen but today is the day that it has to be in if uh we're going to do it in april and we often come out it would be too late if we waited till may because it won't come out in time for me so okay you could send it to scarlet immediately okay and i don't it may be too late by now i don't know i was working this morning on uh evangeline so i didn't look at my emails but i got an email from her saying that she was practically ready to send out yeah okay and i'll send it to um jaylen as well she could put it it in it wouldn't go in the april newsletter because that just came out today but it will go in may and presumably that will come out you know just prior to the weekend all right thank you um the next item is uh a training session with the national alliance of preservation commissions we got a uh actually sherry and got a email from the town or a letter saying that the national alliance is going to be holding a two two zoom sessions probably in june on municipal historic preservation best practices um and they were looking for uh somebody from the historic commission to participate in those zoom sessions and sherry and twisted my arm and uh i volunteered to do that um so there'll be two sessions in june and i can report back um after those sessions i you know i know it's municipal historic preservation best practices beyond that i don't know a lot three people from each town invited and so we were one of the groups that they'd send an invitation to from the town bit to us that's a good opportunity and next item uh matters not reasonably anticipated by the chair are there any other any other matters okay our next meeting is may 6th uh and i'll try to send her on a proposed agenda we can advance look at if there are items to add to it uh let me know do you say may 6th may 6th may 6th yep and with that i think we're done can i have a motion to adjourn so moved second good all those in favor any opposed we're adjourned thank you very much
