Yeah. he's muted is that why his microphone is it working because it's muted i tried to use it and i'll think of it i tried you know it's one foot on back view again hello hi there i'm gonna put you on speaker and then we'll do our best defense of the liquid is that all right i need to wait if he wants to talk you could wait if you want to talk okay kyle on speaker and someone else is ringing but we're going to ignore that i think for the moment um ken would you do the introduction of my room sure um this meeting is being recorded and we're going to do the introduction of my room and we're going to do the introduction of my room made available to the public on the weekend as soon as possible after the meetings and we would like to make public comment if they do so yes the public comment be limited to two units per person the indigenous land acknowledgement statement today as we begin we would like to acknowledge the following indigenous peoples in these traditional homelands we live work and gather today in massachusetts we acknowledge their ancestors particularly carto of the massachusetts tribe was steward of much of the land now encompassing sedbury and wayland when european settlers arrived to colonize this place in 1638 we seek to understand acknowledge and remember the painful ongoing history of war genocide and forced removal of indigenous people who are indigenous people by european settlers and the author of the living celebration of indigenous communities who are not just part of the past but who continue to live and make new history here today may we all commit to deepening our relationships with indigenous communities and to being their allies and justice thank you um just a quick introduction for kyle um kyle joined actually when ken and fernand joined but was away for the summer so he's joining us tonight for the first time we're really excited to welcome you kyle thank you so much for being here kyle is involved um as one of the co-leaders of a group at the um high school called students for solace which he can explain to us another time but i just wanted to make that connection for people it's a very cool organization um so the first thing we're going to do is agenda item number three are we going to have any public comments oh sorry is there a public comment thank you uh no there's not okay i um i have a neighbor who wanted to give public comment uh couldn't come to the meeting and she just sent an email which i could read or you can all read it later and she wants to read it go ahead and i just read it what's her name um jennifer james young orchard lane dear neighbor i was encouraged to attend tonight's meeting to raise concerns regarding the proposed youth center at 17 gleason lane unfortunately i'm unable to attend so i wanted to share my concerns with the committee by email many neighbors are already concerned about activity at the property including the clearing of significant number of mature treaties and questions regarding permitting and town oversight of the proposed youth center more recently i learned about the pastor proposing the youth center alvin mupisa and his ministry delivered to serve ministries information published on the ministry's own website has raised a separate and significant concern for me about the nature of the proposed center and the messages that could be directed toward young people there pastor mukisa's biography states that he became a youth pastor in 2008 and describes his testimony as being delivered from the bondage of homosexuality the same biography describes his book as the story of how he overcame sexual perversion and states that his youtube channel focuses on deliverance from sexual perversion for reference the biography is available on the ministry's website

My concern is that this is being proposed as a youth center in our community. Given Pastor Mukisa's publicly stated ministry and his previous work specifically with youth, I believe it is reasonable to ask what the mission and programming of this proposed center would be and whether these teachings would be incorporated into its work with young people. I'm particularly concerned about the potential impact on LGBTQ plus youth of messaging that characterizes homosexuality as bondage or sexual perversion or suggests that sexual orientation is something from which a person should be delivered. I hope that HRDEIC will take an interest in the proposed use of this property and help ensure that the town and residents have a clear understanding of what is actually being proposed, who the center intends to serve, and what its programming and programming would be. Between the significant tree clearing that has already occurred, the questions surrounding permitting and land use, and now what I've learned about the beliefs publicly promoted by the individual proposing a youth center on this property, I believe this proposal warrants careful attention from the town. Thank you for considering my concerns. I'm sorry I can't attend tonight's meeting, but I wanted to make sure they were shared with the committee. Best, Jennifer James Young, Orchard Lane. Thank you. In this case, I believe, I might have even sent it on Wednesday and it included all the documents that were needed. So if you didn't have a chance to look at it, you can choose not to vote. We're looking at probably 12 to 15 people maximum for the group so that everyone can see them. All right, Karen. for the group so that everybody can hear and have a conversation and we have agreement with um the council on aging to potentially coordinate um a ban to do the commute from wayland which we thought would um assist with you know we all know parking boston is extremely expensive yeah and and this is happening uh they've already begun advertising it um they will add our name to it if we vote yes this evening but they have already begun advertising and how much are the tickets twenty dollars it's free to get into the mfa but you have to pay for the van twenty dollars yeah oh right yeah the transportation yeah yeah and this is open to coa members only at point because they're the ones who are providing the bus but we hope that if this model works well that we can try it again in the spring and and expand it to other services the bus is only for coa all the job things are possible they might have flown it to us but but it's only a possibility we don't have that permission yet but you can since it's a coa program they have the advantage but most of us are here clarified okay what what did you say two things um being on the coa board a you can join the coa the day of the event b the van and cost is really an issue for the coa which is the reason why some of this gets into it because there are issues of what your requirements are for drivers and insurance and that's why they're charging for the van yeah gas drivers and it's not just us that coa has to charge no every time yeah that's true there's no cost sure but the mfa entrance is thanks to karen crown yeah she has negotiated to bring people in yeah that makes sense we have uh other than karen we also have another new person she speaks in chinese as well as english where she will be with us too yes there's another wayland mfa guy

i'm sorry if i missed this if you drive yourself can you participate for free yeah that's a good question you have to pay the parking well right but forget about parking what if i take the t or whatever i don't know yeah uh aaron um said we do need to limit the number in the group so you'd have to just register and say you know self transport and self drive whatever yeah if you register so what time i think the van carries 12 people so that would allow for a few extras yeah i haven't seen the the flyer did you see the fires so and so we'll probably want to get out It came out in their newsletter, which I haven't seen, but they're next going to put it in their weekly newsletter, I think, as the time approaches. But they've got monthly. No, the October newsletter hasn't come out yet. Right. So I think when that, okay, when that comes out. We met with them. We agreed. Is the deal already published for this month? Yeah. And this month's too late. It's this morning, and so we missed the deadline. But the deadline for this morning is October 1st. Thank you. 7 to 8 15 p.m. with the executive director of the Massachusetts Women of Color Network, who's going to be talking about building culturally safe communities together and what communities can do to help victims of domestic violence in a culturally sensitive way. positive way. And it's on Zoom. And excuse me, yes, and it is on Zoom. Yes. And the person's name is Kishana Osei. She's the executive director of the Women of Color Network in Massachusetts. Don't we have the Freedom Network here in Wayland? Freedom Team. The Freedom Team that handles... Now, this is about domestic violence and cultural sensitivity, but the Freedom Team only responds to an event. This is a... This is focused on domestic violence. Oh, like a... Yes. Okay. Couples.
Survivors. I will just say that, you know, we're part... You know, this is Sudbury, Wayland, Lincoln Domestic Violence Group. This is a group that has deep roots in our community and on Sudbury and Lincoln. So we've worked a lot on... We've worked a lot on things together. So they're not just any group. So let's see if we can maintain that as we talk about ongoing business. The first item of ongoing business is the festival. So if Jenno, Marianne, Yawu, if you want to update us, and is there anything you need from this group? I will give my part that I have to know. Can you just make sure you speak loudly enough so the owl can pick up your voice? You can see me. Okay. This year, all the performance, Chris is . So the focus will be to have a more professional performance for attracted people to attend. Consequently, we'll have much less cultural performance. We'll have about one hour. So we, the cultural group, We are focusing on the tables, the exhibits, and we have, like, some of the cultural groups have their sports, like 610, 10 spaces, and we have a theme that is the holidays. So we will concentrate on demonstrating our holidays from each of the cultures. Which cultures? Islamic and the Chinese. The Chinese, they have more than one of the holidays. It's not all the holidays, it's just actually set up, what we will do on those holidays. So I talked to Yanmei Li, and it's all captives. I haven't get a positive, conforming on their participation. But I do like to have the Jewish group, because the Jewish group has so many holidays. Yes, it's mostly Wiener people, local people, I mean the traditional living here, they familiar with. But now you have 50% of people from Asia, they don't know anything about it. Okay. So it's a very good opportunity to have, to know what the Jewish holiday is for, or what local holidays are for. And it's very interesting, you know, it's a very good thing, you know, even to show what, how important Torah is, you know, those kinds of things. It's very good. So, but so far, we don't have the Jewish group participate, if you can. I think Ken would like to address that. Sure. Ken, you approached. I did not approach anyone, because I don't know. I got a name just last week, so I haven't called yet. Well, so this event is problematic, because of the scheduling. And so a starting question is, is there a traffic plan yet? Because the COA is enormously concerned about that. There is a traffic plan. Yes. As a plan. Yes. Last week's COA meeting, there was a lot of concern, because there hadn't been one. What type of traffic are they worried about? Well, there had been, at one point, there had been talk about doing a parade down here. Oh, yeah. None of that stuff. No, no, no. No, but the question about this is, is that, in light of the professional entertainment, in light of the vendors, how is parking going to be handled? Well, we've, it's, I don't, you know, we were, we're going to use it. We're going to use it. We're going to use it. I'd like to use the COA parking lot and the, I mean, all the parking that's there. I hear there's some time. So there's a time schedule. So the vendors all come and set up. They come in early, but then they're going to probably. And they can unload. And then Andrew Avenue is closed. Right. And that will be blocked off at 930. Either end. Both ends. Right. So nobody would get into COA anymore? Wait a minute. Once I get into COA. I think we met Thursday. So maybe. They need to be updated. As of our last week meeting. Yeah. What happens on the COA? And Saturday. Nothing. So I don't understand what the, why, what's the question about their concern? Well, their concern is just general safety as well as accessibility, as well as whether or not the building is open to be sort of luxury bathrooms for folks who don't want to be using, you know, the port-a-bodies. I don't think that's happening. Yeah. I don't think it's open. No, it won't be. Yeah. So. I talked to Julie once. My understanding is if we, they have something can work with us, it would propose something doing there, then they're concerned about traffic. They are not doing anything, they are not concerning the traffic. Which is the reason why they decided probably, most likely not to do anything because they have. Just for, so we are not at this moment, I think it's too late to do anything with the minifarm. So the parking lot will be available to us. Okay. Can there was talk about a sort of a after party at the COA? So that's off the table now? I confirm it. My understanding was it was probably off, but I can't say that definitively because as I said, the discussion in the last week's meeting was waiting to see what comes with the traffic plan. So who should be communicating with whom? About? Chris. Who should communicate with Chris? Chris should communicate with the COA? With Julie. I know they already have the conversation. I don't know that. We have a meeting tomorrow. Okay. We will talk about someone to talk to the COA. Okay. We'll clarify that. And thank you, Ken, for bringing that up. Okay. My second question is. As a member of the HRDEI Ski Committee which involves equity and inclusion, the fact that the idea of approaching the Jewish community about participating in this event between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. I find this inexcusable, you know, if we're looking to have the Jewish community represented, and since this wasn't just thought up today. I didn't send out an email. I believe I included Islamic, I mean the Jewish community, I guess. Okay, well I'm curious. They don't respond because I can't do anything about it. And there's a lot of discussion about the Saturday timing, and that was a problem last year also. As well as the fact that it's the holiday of Sukkot. Yes, so there was some hope that maybe there could be some sort of Sukkot celebration incorporated, but nobody picked up on that idea. It would be helpful if somebody could, if I could get copied on that, so I know who's doing what. Yeah, I will do that. We also might talk about how many HRDIC people are involved. This is one of the issues as we try to keep the number of HRDIC people down, so we don't inadvertently violate open meeting law. So those three are the ones who've been doing. But just, you know, to share with the committee some of the discussion in the planning group, because we wanted to try to have either a Sunday or even look at, you know, like Columbus Day weekend, maybe a Monday. And for this year, it is all, all the dates were already pretty much taken. But for the festival, our biggest concern has been to have a two-day kind of window so that in the event of extremely inclement weather, we could potentially have a rain date. The next day. I mean, it's already a terrible challenge to have a rain date event, but because we're still kind of finding our feet with an outdoor event, and because we didn't have options for dates this year, we thought we are very much aware that it's, you know, Shabbat and the holidays, but we don't have choices. Well, if I can volunteer to take ownership for trying to network with the Jewish organizations in town. So will I talk to you tomorrow? I want to say, I think Fran Powlett said that there's another Jewish congregation that goes to Oratee. There are three in town. And I think they have a table. But to my knowledge, there are no specific Jewish schools in Wayland.
Um, but I do believe that the synagogues were reached. Out too. There were. Yeah. So of course this is a challenging time for, for, you know, having the Jewish community be available as it was pointed out with all the holidays and Shabbat. But I, I don't want it to seem like the Jewish community was not reached out to at least the Wayland, at least the religious organizations within Wayland. Yes. HRDIC has a table. So we have a table that we need to. Um, people. So what I was taking advantage of, um, in terms of a topic other than just, oh, HRDIC, um, last time we had, you know, our book of statements and, you know, our charge so that if anybody comes by, they can look at that. Um, but as a topic, um, September 21st is the United Nations day of peace. And it's like, well, this event usually happens at the beginning of October. What a convenient topic, um, to have. And this year it's invest in peace for everyone, everywhere, every day, you know, focusing on what your local action to build, um, peace among your community. And, um, so, um, I've gotten some, the dove is their symbol of peace. And, uh, so, um, we, and they actually have, um, it actually started in San Francisco. And they have a peace bell there. So put some doves on a paper cup peace bell and, um, and ask adults what they might be able to do locally to enhance peace. But I need people to sit at the table. Um, so I'm looking for volunteers up Karen. Um, we, we do have 10, um, 10 to 12, one to two, two to four, and then break down. And Mary, I got to mention, we have a ton of swag now too. Heather and I are meeting with the select board next Tuesday to request funding for, um, Jimmy L and, and even Renee's programs that we've already voted on and discussed before the select board. And, oh, maybe the news. I don't know if we shared the, I don't know if I knew this last time. Oh, probably not. Cause we didn't have a meeting in August. Um, the schools are going to support us financially and, um, to co-sponsor and, um, they have $2,000. They're going to put toward the program. So that is really nice that we're there. Yeah. It's part of their goal this year, I think is to work more with the community and it's part of our goal to work more with them. So it's been great. Yeah. Wonderful. That's awesome. Yeah. And one of the, for everybody to just think about one of the goals of our goals this year continues to be, how do we reach more people? The community conversations. Last year, you know, ran a series of four, had people who came regularly. How do we expand and just get more people attending these events? So folks have ideas. Once we have flyers, we'll be asking everyone to reach out to their circles and see if we can get the ripple effect going. Since we're at this amazing opportunity to kind of collaborate with the schools, maybe we could, you know, have sort of. Sort of an intergenerational and youth voices focus. Absolutely. And that's part Jamil is hoping for that. And given his work in the schools. And I just realized, I thought you were going to say, given we're having this big event, do you think putting out flyers by the festival? You'll know. Community resource guide. Hernan and Ken worked on it tirelessly this summer and produced an amazingly wonderful updated resource guide. Marianne, I think you've been distributing physical copies around town, which is amazing. And Ken and I worked on it. Just like an announcement to figure out where to put it. But it's in your packet, letting people know that it's got the resource guide, got a refresh. And I'm planning to send an email to our listserv this week or next. This week, I guess. Advertising the festival, the domestic violence program and the updated resource guide with links to all that information. So those three shapes will go in the next. E-blast, which all of you made that too. Can we get that in the next town? I mean, that's a little late for the festival and that's already been announced. But can we get a link in the town? Yes, that's one of the things we want to do with that announcement. Exactly. Right. So the announcement, other ideas. The format was impossible to do as a group of doc, even though we wanted to, for the translation purposes. My suggestion is next year, not this year. It's so hard to, to work, work your way through so many things to look for what you need. So we may be able to. Could that be a page in the. Several level, several pull down windows. Then to go to where you really want to quickly. Well, we had talked about the table of contents having hyperlinks. Which it does. And that would take you to each. Yes. But.
