Football
Wayland football dropped its season opener to Holliston 14–0 on September 5. The defense produced key stops, including an interception by Aidan Curry at the goal line, but the offense couldn’t break through. Two weeks later under the lights, Ashland rolled to a 31–0 victory (September 19), followed by a 35–0 defeat at Westford Academy (September 26). The Warriors continue searching for consistency as they prepare for a stretch of league games.

Boys’ Soccer
The boys’ squad opened strong with a 6–0 win at Tewksbury (September 3) and a 1–0 victory over Dearborn STEM (September 6). After a narrow 2–1 loss to Natick (September 12), Wayland rebounded with a dramatic 3–2 win at Weston (September 18), showing grit under pressure. On September 22, the Warriors edged Ashland 2–1. Five days later, they battled Westford Academy to a 2–2 draw at the Kicks for Cancer showcase, with Walsh and Kylberger each tallying a goal and an assist.

Girls’ Soccer
The girls’ varsity team endured a difficult start, including losses to Nipmuc (0–4), Grafton (0–2) and Waltham (1–2). A highlight came on September 15 with a 2–1 win over Maynard. Despite narrow defeats to Weston and Ashland, the offense broke through on September 27 in a non-league showcase, defeating Westfield 5–3, their highest scoring output of the season. But the momentum stalled with a 0–1 setback to Bedford on September 29.

Field Hockey
After opening with setbacks against Bedford and Weston, the Warriors found stride with a 7–1 rout of Milford on September 8 and a 1–1 tie vs. Newton South on September 11. Holliston edged Wayland 1–0 on September 19, and Waltham took a 3–0 result three days later. A highlight came in a gritty 1–1 draw at Westford on September 24, showing the Warriors’ defensive resolve.

Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team opened with a 3–0 sweep of Belmont on September 8, establishing momentum early in the season. On September 18, they staged a thrilling five-set 3–2 win over Weston, rallying late to capture the final set 15–11. A week later, Wayland again went the distance but fell 3–2 at Westford on September 25, followed by a 3–1 home loss to Wellesley on September 26. The squad bounced back on September 29 with a convincing 3–0 sweep of Bedford, restoring confidence at midseason.

Cross Country
At the Frank Kelley Invitational on September 22, Wayland’s sophomore boys swept the podium. Cyriaque Schaffer, Ryan Foley and Brandon Hopps finished 1–2–3, each breaking the 10-minute barrier for the first time in WHS history. The result underscored the depth and rising potential of the program.

Standout Performers

  • Cyriaque Schaffer, Ryan Foley and Brandon Hopps (cross country): Historic 1–2–3 finish at Frank Kelley Invitational.
  • Matyas Kylberger and Max Walsh (boys’ soccer): combined for two goals and two assists in 2–2 draw vs. Westford.
