Sherman Bridge weight concerns

Dear Editor:
I live just beyond the crest of the hill leading to Sherman’s Bridge. My wife and I purchased #53 the last day of 2020 as our primary home. We added a turn around to the driveway to avoid backing onto Sherman’s Bridge Road, which can be extremely busy, even dangerous.
I have been following the emails and discussions regarding how to repair Sherman’s Bridge. You have received the various documents about the bridge. There seems to be an attempt by the Select Board and DPW to avoid acknowledging the Agreement carried from 1971-72 through reconstruction of the bridge in 1992.
Further, the buses and heavy commercial vehicles now using the bridge should not be doing so. Earlier there was a weight limit restricting such traffic. Sherman’s Bridge Road and Lincoln Road are not suitable for these heavy and large vehicles.
You have in your possession the Affidavit from Mr. Stauffer. He gives proof of the discussions. The Agreement he discusses was made and adhered to over the years. I request that the Select Board and DPW acknowledge it as in force and valid.
My neighborhood agrees to and desires for the terms of the Agreement to be respected. We are willing to work with the Town to reach an updated Agreement aimed to better reflect today’s realities, and that will work best for us all.
