To the Editor:
I live at 61 Sherman’s Bridge Road. We moved here in February 2025. I have three children who walk and play along the street with their friends. I also take care of my elderly parents, who walk along the road whenever they can. My father has terminal Parkinson’s Disease and metastatic prostate cancer and struggles to walk.
I learned about the agreement concerning the Sherman’s Bridge, the terms of which Mr. Stauffer enumerated. Mr. Stauffer also signed an affidavit with a notary concerning the same. I believe this constitutes a strong proof of the validity of the agreement. Therefore, the agreement should be honored, legally protected, and enforced. The neighbors have reached a consensus for this.
Despite extensive efforts advocating for the enforcement of this agreement, as well as the 18-foot road width limit and the 2.5-ton weight limit, our requests have been repeatedly dismissed. I learned through our neighbors that these limits have not been enforced for decades. We are troubled by the fact that the Select Board has not only failed to take this matter seriously, but it has also delegated the important matter to the town’s DPW director, who has neither the statutory authority, qualifications, or temperament to resolve this.
The neighbors have discussed this matter at length. We are willing to work with the town to reach an amended agreement which will better reflect today’s realities and work better for all – as we have been requesting since Sept. 22. However, if this goal cannot be achieved through good-faith discussions, we intend to seek compliance through whatever means are necessary.
