The Select Board has scheduled a community forum on the potential for a sports facility or another use of the town-owned lot at 195 Main St. The forum will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, at 7:15 pm, in the Council on Aging room in the Town Building. 195 Main St., adjacent to Wayland Middle School and now vacant, was the site of a former DPW garage. In the past this property was identified as the site of a proposed new library facility for which borrowing was not approved by Town Meeting. The Select Board has recently been approached by a group of residents proposing the development of a multi-purpose indoor sports facility. The proposal envisions the development of a facility for sports such as basketball, indoor soccer, and volleyball, and would also provide for such adult recreational activities as pickleball and a walking track. The Select Board is seeking input as to whether this or an alternative use should be pursued for this 6.7-acre property. A Zoom link will be made available on the town’s webpage on the day of the meeting at https://www.wayland.ma.us/public-body-meeting-information-virtual-inperson-and-hybrid.
