Nov. 7-13

During the week of Nov. 7-13, the Wayland fire and police departments were kept busy responding to many outdoor fires or potential fires, including 3 reports of unauthorized burning outdoors, 2 outside fires, 2 brush fires and 3 residential fire incidents. Public safety personnel also conducted 32 motor vehicle stops and responded to reports of road hazards (6), motor vehicle crashes (5), suspicious activity (4), suspicious motor vehicles (2), suspicious persons (2), wires down (2), larceny (1), disturbances (1), gas leaks (1), and a civil matter (1). 

Thursday, Nov. 7

Road hazards. At 4:27 p.m. a small pothole was reported to police at the intersection of Commonwealth Road (Route 30) and Pemberton Road, and a police officer reported a black garbage bag stuffed with leaves on the side of Cochituate Road (Route 27) at 8:46 p.m. The DPW was notified about both hazards.

Crash. A two-car crash involving a Lexus and a Chevrolet Traverse was reported on Boston Post Road (Route 20) near the entrance to the Wayland Town Center at 5:28 p.m.. One party was taken by ambulance to Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

Friday., Nov. 8

Outside fire. Acting on a report relayed from the Framingham Fire Department, Wayland and Framingham  firefighters responded to the scene of an outside fire on Old Connecticut Path (Route 126)  near the intersection with West Plain Street at 12:08 p.m. Wayland fire officials reported that a compost pile spontaneously combusted, and that the fire was extinguished by 12:24 p.m.

Suspicious person. A Cormanโ€™s Lane resident called police at 1:55 p.m. to report that an โ€œolder male in a red shirt, with a white hatโ€ had rung their doorbell multiple times and then left.

Saturday, Nov 9

Outside fire. A brush fire between two houses on Forest Hill Road was reported to firefighters at 8:38 a.m. The blaze was reported to be โ€œunder controlโ€ 18 minutes later.

Sunday, Nov. 10

Dog retrieved. Police received a report from Alpine Road of suspicious activity at 3:04 p.m., with the caller stating that a family in a black Chrysler minivan had โ€œleft their dog behindโ€ on Alpine Field. At 3:18 p.m. an officer reported that the dog was returned to its home and owner, also an Alpine Road resident.

More outdoor fires. Firefighters received reports of unauthorized outdoor burning on Brooks Road at 4:50 p.m. and on Meadow View Road at 5:42 p.m.

Monday, Nov. 11

Wires down. Police and fire personnel responded to two reports of tree limbs down and resting on electrical wires, on Gammons Way at 12:40 p.m., and on Larke Shore Drive at 1:22 p.m.Eversource was notified in both cases.

Brush fire and outdoor burning. A caller reported a small brush fire between two houses on Cameron Road at 2:52 p.m., and another caller reported outdoor burning on Pemberton Road at 3:17 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

Wayland Fire Department bans outdoor burning due to dry conditions, winds. See separate article below.

Natural gas odor. At 8:15 a.m. a Gage Road resident reported in person to firefighters at the Station 2 firehouse on Main Street (Route 27) of an odor of gasoline at their home.  Firefighters investigated and found that the odor was caused by a gas can stored in the basement of the home.

3-vehicle crash. Three people were taken to area hospitals after a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Connecticut Path and Forest Hill Road at 1:09 p.m. 

Disturbance. Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the offices of the Alta Oxbow residential buildings at 4;29 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 13

Outdoor burning. Firefighters responded at 10:17 a.m. to a report of outdoor burning on Michael Road. After talking to the homeowner, firefighters reported that the fire was extinguished.Suspicious activity. Police received a report from a Glezen Road resident at 2:05 p.m. that someone had attempted to open five credit cards in their name.
