Wayland’s long-term water supply design reached 75% complete, with bidding set for summer 2027. Kirsten Ryan of Kleinfelder told the Board of Public Works on Sept. 22 that the final environmental impact report certificate is in hand but the state Water Resources Commission requires four formal water-management plans, including drought management and water loss control, by July 2027.
Ryan said Wayland is “definitely on the higher side of the spectrum” on unaccounted-for water against a 10% state standard. Ajay Sharma reported no lead service lines, 88 galvanized requiring replacement and 2,189 unknowns, to be resolved with about 300 hydro-excavated test holes. The board voted 4-0 to appoint Jonathan Storer to the Route 20 working group and signaled a one-year delay on a $380,000 roll-off truck, while a $500,000 asset management plan was rescoped to $250,000.
