Wayland receives multiple grants

Wayland has been awarded multiple grants over the last several months to support municipal initiatives, enhance town services and advance town projects.

• Executive Office of Public Safety & Security’s Office of Grants and Research ($23,891) — The grant supports three areas of the department’s road safety program: traffic safety enforcement; traffic safety equipment; and community awareness, outreach, and education.

• Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection ($13,559) — for purchasing one electric vehicle charging station for the Wayland Public Safety Building under the Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program Workplace and Fleets Program.

• Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection ($7,500) — for purchasing an electric police vehicle under the MassEVIP Fleet Vehicles Program.

• MassWorks Infrastructure Program in the amount of $495,000. This grant will support the design and engineering necessary to remove wastewater infrastructure constraints that currently limit housing production and economic development within our MBTA Communities district and Town Center.

• Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection through the Recycling Dividends Program under the Sustainable Materials Recovery Program ($7,800) — for implementing policies and programs to maximize materials reuse and recycling, as well as waste reduction.

“These grants provide valuable funding to advance important projects, strengthen our services and support town initiatives. I would also like to thank the departments who secured these funds, including the Wayland Police Department, Information Technology, Sustainability/Facilities, and the Department of Public Works,” said Town Manager Michael McCall.

Aaa bond rating

Moody’s Investor Service has reaffirmed its ‘Aaa’ rating for Wayland, which is the highest rating a municipality can attain.

According to the report, the rating reflects the town’s stable tax base supported by high resident wealth and incomes, with resident incomes in 2024 representing 256% of the U.S. median and full value per capita of over $400,000.

“Maintaining our Aaa bond rating is a testament to the town’s strong financial management and responsible budgeting,” Town Manager Michael McCall said in a press release. “Through the implementation of financial policies, the town has strengthened our best practices and long-term fiscal stability. I would like to thank our Finance Director Brian Keveny, town staff and Select Board for their continued support and efforts to maintain the Aaa rating.”

Town’s Fire Department is expanding

The Wayland Fire Department is accepting applications for a full-time firefighter/paramedic position as it is expanding the department.

The job, which was posted earlier this month, will remain open until filled, the town says. The position includes fire suppression, fire prevention and education, advanced life support care, rescue operations and other department duties.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians or Massachusetts paramedic certification.

The Wayland Fire Department provides ambulance, rescue and emergency medical services around the clock. Its ambulance service is licensed at the paramedic level by Massachusetts.

Candidates should email a letter of interest and résumé to [email protected].
