We’re more than halfway there in Post fundraising

As of Oct. 19, Wayland Post readers have contributed $19,229 toward our $35,000 fundraising goal. That is 54.9%, more than halfway there, and we are deeply grateful.

When we last updated you, on Sept. 25, we had raised $11,115, or 31.8%. Since then, you’ve added more than $8,100‚ but we still need to raise $15,771.

The gifts came by check, online, and through monthly contributions. One was a $5,000 check from a memorial fund, which accounts for much of the progress since our last report. We are thankful for it, and for every gift of every size.

That one large gift moved the thermometer a long way, but it is not a sustainable model. Our longer-term goal is 1,000 supporting donors, so the newspaper does not depend on one large donor, one advertiser, or one institution to survive. Gifts of $10, $25, $50, or $100 are what build that base. A small monthly gift helps most, because it lets a small organization plan ahead.

The goal itself has not changed. The Post is delivered free to homes and businesses throughout Wayland, but producing it isn’t free. Our operating expenses run about $11,725 a month, and a three-month cushion of $35,000 lets us decide what to cover because it matters to the community, not because there happens to be enough money in the account that week.

We’re more than halfway there. The rest depends on neighbors who read the Post and have not yet contributed. If you can’t give right now, you can still help. Send us a news tip, a photograph or a letter, or pass this issue along to a neighbor.

If you’ve already donated, thank you for carrying us this far. To give, go to waylandpost.org/donate, use the QR code on page 2, or mail a check payable to Wayland Post, P.O. Box 146, Wayland, MA 01778.
