The Wayland Weston Rowing Club Association (WWRA) returned victorious from the 2025 U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida. Team members representing eight boats competed (five of the boats were in the under-17 category.

All eight boats came in the top 30, with one team coming in third in the country. Wayland resident Alexander Dremhov, 18, and Weston resident Thomas Lee, 19, came in third in the men’s pairs. Both were exhilarated and said that they were looking forward to competing together, in the fall, as two-person scull members on Tufts University men’s crew team.

Dan Mahoney, WWRA interim program director and head boys’ coach, said it was a big deal just to be able to participate in the national championship. He said that he was pleased with the club’s success with all teams placing in the top 30, and he appeared to particularly proud of Dremhov and Lee’s performance.

The regatta took place from June 12-15 with around 10,000 athletes, coaches, and spectators. The national championships bring together the best young rowers from across the country each year “for four days of fierce racing, remarkable teamwork, and standout individual performances from single scullers to powerhouse eights.”
