Gymnastics: The inaugural Weston-Wayland gymnastics season was a great success for our athletes. The team improved its overall score from 110 to 120.9 over the course of the season which is quite a feat in the gymnastics world! Freshman Sawyer Whitcher was named a Dual County League (DCL) All-Star.

Swim and Dive: The boys swim and dive team won the Division 2 State Championship. Peter Morris tallied his 1000th point and the team took first in all relays at the state meet. The girls swim and dive team finished sixth at the Division 2 State Championship meet. The team took 4th in the 100 yd Medley Relay and 5th in the 200 yd Free Relay and 6th in the 400 yd Free Relay. Cara Hill also finished 3rd in the 100 yd Backstroke.

Indoor Track: Track team highlights include Cyriaque Schaff qualified for Nationals in the 1-mile. Ryan McCormack and Atticus DeGrenier placed 2nd and 4th respectively in the 55m Hurdles at the DCL Championships. Sazie Wrentmore placed 3rd in the 55m hurdles and 6th in the long jump at the Division 4 State Meet and qualified for All New England’s in the 55m hurdles this weekend. The 4x400m relay team (Wrentmore, Annabelle Hage, Katie White and Mackenzie Morris) placed 4th at the D4 State Meet.

Nordic Ski: The Nordic Ski team had 15 skiers compete at the MIAA State Race this month. Quite a few skiers saw their times improve throughout the season and 4 skiers will be representing Wayland in additional championship races. Sawyer Miles and Ryan Young will be representing Wayland and the Mass Nordic Program at the U16 Championship and Naomi Rice and Adrian Narvaez will represent Wayland at the EHS Championship in Rumford, Maine.

Alpine Ski: The girls team finished 5th in the Alpha Division this season. Finley Knapp finished 8th overall in the league and Penelope Jacques finished 12th in the alpha division. Both Finley and Penelope qualified for the State Race and were each named DCL All-Star. On the boys’ side, the team finished 8th in the Alpha division and while none of the boys qualified for the state race, there was a significant improvement over the season by the varsity skiers. The boys will return all skiers next season and look to continue that improvement.

Wrestling: The wrestling team won the Division 3 Central Sectionals. 13 wrestlers placed in the top 6 in their respective weight classes: B. Lyons 4th, D. Sdoia 2nd, M. Altreuter 2nd, R. Flatley 4th, C. Ciciarelli 3rd, D. Florez 4th, M. Keenan 3rd, J. Kaufman 6th, J. Cavallo 3rd, C. Chase 1st, A. Brown 1st, N. Tobe 1st and N. Hartunian 1st. Those wrestlers advanced to the Division 3 State Tournament with Damian Sdoia (6th), Cole Chase (4th), Anthony Brown (4th), Nathan Tobe (5th) and Nathan Hartunian advancing to the All-States meet being held today.

Girls Basketball: The girls basketball team finished the season with a 4-16 record. Many of their games were close as they played tenacious defense all season. Annie McQuilkin and Sarah Powers were named DCL All-Stars.

Boys Basketball: The boys basketball team finished the season with a 6-14 record, picking up some exciting wins along the way while coming up just short at times as well. The team showed a lot of fight and worked hard, supporting one another on and off the court throughout the season.

Girls Ice Hockey: The Wayland-Weston WarCats finished the season as the #29 seed in Division 2. The team traveled to New England Sports Center on Tuesday to face off against 4th-seeded Algonquin in the first round of tournament play. Tilly Myles was great between the pipes and the team battled through all three periods. Unfortunately, they came up just short with Algonquin advancing with a 2-1 win.

Boys Ice Hockey: The Watertown-Wayland Raiders finished the season seeded 12th in Division 3. The team hosted #21 Pembroke at the JAR on Wednesday night. The teams skated to a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation sending the game into overtime. After two overtime periods, the score was still knotted at 3, forcing a third sudden death overtime. After a Pembroke goal was waived off for goalie interference, Wayland’s Jack Gavron was able to breakaway and net the game winner sending the Raiders on to the Round of 16. The team will travel to Graf Arena in Newburyport on Sunday to face #5 Triton Regional at 6pm. Tickets must be purchased via GoFan.
