Youth Basketball Association Launches 2nd Annual “Hoops for a Home Court” 3v3 Charity Tournament

The Wayland Youth Basketball Association, in partnership with the Wayland Community Sports Center, has opened registration for the 2nd Annual Hoops for a Home Court 3v3 basketball tournament, scheduled for Saturday, December 6. The event brings together boys’ and girls’ teams from grades 1 through 8 for a day of competition and community spirit, with all proceeds supporting the creation of a new indoor recreational facility in Wayland.

The tournament will be held at the Wayland Middle School and Wayland High School gyms, featuring a double-elimination format and prizes for the winners in each age division. Teams may register for $120, or $40 per individual player. The event is designed to promote fun, teamwork, and fitness while raising funds to advance the vision of the Wayland Community Sports Center (WCSC), a proposed nonprofit indoor sports complex that aims to serve residents of all ages.

Last year’s inaugural event drew more than 120 young athletes across 30 teams and raised over $22,000 toward the center’s development. Organizers said the 2024 turnout exceeded expectations and demonstrated strong community support for the project. “More importantly,” wrote tournament organizer Scott in his outreach letter, “the kids had a blast.”

The WCSC initiative seeks to address a longstanding shortage of indoor recreation space in Wayland. Once built, the facility would host youth sports, adult leagues, and senior programs, offering what organizers call “a safe, welcoming environment for community events and gatherings.” The group is currently in the process of formalizing its nonprofit status to ensure the project can be funded privately, without relying on town appropriations.

“Wayland is in need of more multi-purpose indoor recreational space to support youth sports teams, adults, and older adults who want and need a place to gather as members of our community,” the association said in its campaign statement. “Events like Hoops for a Home Court will help us get there.”
