The Wastewater Management District Commission reviewed a draft five-year capital plan Sept. 14 that includes $2 million in fiscal 2028 for low-pressure sewer work along Route 20 and an $8 million placeholder in fiscal 2032 for a possible expansion of the wastewater treatment plant.
Department of Public Works Director Thomas Holder said the plan also includes approximately $1.205 million in fiscal 2031 for HVAC and building improvements. The possible plant expansion could include additional capacity to serve homes in the Dudley Pond area. The commission did not vote on the capital plan and expects to consider a formal recommendation at a later meeting.
Members were also told that Wayland Commons had purchased 880 gallons per day of wastewater capacity for $21,780 to serve four new residential units, effectively using the district’s remaining available capacity for new connections.
Operations Manager Jared Cotton reported that a July phosphorus reading slightly exceeded the plant’s monthly limit. He characterized it as an excursion rather than a violation; August testing showed no phosphorus exceedance.
Wastewater Administrator Sarah Pawluczonek reported that fiscal 2026 closed with nearly $1.5 million in revenue, approximately $936,000 in expenses and $1.14 million in certified retained earnings.
