Maria Elizabeth (Goode) Bowens, 73, of Boston, died Sept. 17, 2026. She was born Oct. 13, 1952, to the late Frederick Goode and Maria Fernandes Monteiro Goode and was raised in Boston.
In 1974 she married Monte Alan Bowens, who died before her. She is survived by her children, Krietta and Lacey; grandchildren Jayden Bowens, Nora Jones and Keith Jones; her mother, Maria Fernandes Monteiro Goode; her sister, Josephine Watson; nephews Trevor Watson, True See Allah and Joseph Efezokhae; and many cousins and loved ones.
She graduated from Ursuline Academy in Dedham in 1970, earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a specialization in early childhood education from Lesley University in 1974, and a master’s degree in dance education from Columbia University in 1977.
She was an educator who taught children in schools in Brookline, Newton, Wellesley, Roxbury and Wayland, and in Palm Springs, California. She served on the adjunct faculty at Antioch University New England, teaching in the Multicultural Studies Program. A dancer and choreographer, she created dance programs for adults and children and taught dance at Brookline High School. She also wrote poetry and was a devoted Patriots and Celtics fan.
