Francis D. “Red” Chalmers, 94, of West Newfield, Maine, died Sept. 30, 2026. He was born Jan. 13, 1932, in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late James K. and Clara I. (Searles) Chalmers.
He leaves his wife of nearly 50 years, Sheila (Regan) Chalmers; his children, James (Diane) Chalmers and Kerry (Laurie) Chalmers; grandchildren Jennifer, Meghan, Luke and Jackie; and six great-grandchildren, Polly, Coby, Daisy, Cyris, Leon and Diana. He was predeceased by his son Kenneth and his siblings Kenneth, Urline, Margaret, James and Carol Ann.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. His career included work at Raytheon in Wayland and later service as code enforcement officer for Alfred, Maine. He also ran a small landscaping business, worked for Hancock Lumber, served as an EMT on the Alfred Rescue team, and drove a York County school bus and a Wells, Maine, trolley.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or the ALS Association (als.org).
