A week after a series of reported vehicle break-ins around town, the Wayland Police Department has not found the culprit or culprits.
During a period of a little more than 25 hours on Sept. 8 and 9, there were seven reports of residents’ cars being broken into. Detectives from WPD are looking into the spree that happened off of Cochituate Road north of Wayland Middle School, on Commonwealth Road, Gregory Lane, Trinity Place, Sunset Road, and Aqueduct Road.
Police have not commented on whether the cases are connected or not.
“We do not have any more information on the break-ins. The detective bureau canvassed the area and spoke to neighbors,” said Acting Police Chief Mark Hebert. “There have been no additional leads at this point, but it is still being investigated.”
Car break-ins in towns like Wayland are common. According to area publications, a similar spree happened in August 2023. Wayland PD reminds residents to keep valuables out of sight, don’t leave any in unattended vehicles, always lock your vehicle, and notify them if you notice suspicious activity.
Detective Sgt. Tyler Castagno added that it is 50-50 that the suspects would come back to hit more vehicles.
“In this case, the suspects did not get a lot of cash or valuables, so they may not come back,” he said. “In the past, if the suspects made out with loose change and lots of other valuables, they may circle back weeks or months later. It’s hard to truly say if they’ll be back or not.”
