The Wayland High School sports community celebrated on Wednesday April 30th the college sports commitments of a record-setting 25 athletes who have competed for WHS varsity sports teams. Wayland Boosters hosted the annual event for families and students at WHS Commons in an informal ceremony. Coaches representing 15 WHS teams spoke with pride of witnessing dedication of the student athletes in their academic and athletic journeys so far.
Parents of recent WHS alumni who have continued on to compete as varsity collegiate athletes praise the academic rigor of the WHS experience combined with the social-emotional benefits of continuing on to collegiate athletic programs as extremely beneficial to the students through the transition to college and beyond. Some universities such as Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s May 2024 survey report stated that student athletes have the highest satisfaction as well as the highest academic outcomes.
