Wayland’s Human Rights, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee agreed Sept. 15 to support four upcoming programs, approving three through formal votes and expressing consensus on a fourth.
The committee approved co-sponsorship of a Sept. 28 domestic-violence program involving the Massachusetts Women of Color Network. The vote was 4-0 with one abstention.
Members also approved support for an Oct. 19 Museum of Fine Arts trip with the Council on Aging, with round-trip van transportation priced at $20 per person.
The committee approved participation in a Dec. 10 Human Rights Day program focused on climate change. Planning for the event, including some program details and participants, remained underway.
Members also expressed consensus in favor of supporting a Native American design program with the Wayland Museum and Historical Society, but no formal motion was taken.
During public comment, the committee received a written statement from resident Jennifer James Young raising concerns about a proposed youth center and past statements she attributed to a pastor associated with the proposal. The committee thanked her for the comment but did not discuss the matter during the meeting.
