Municipal Meeting Recaps

Select Board

No public comment was offered before the Select Board entered executive session at its Aug. 13 meeting for a periodic review of executive session minutes spanning eight categories under MGL Chapter 30A, Section 21(a)(7), including 14 West Plain St. real estate talks, Town Manager Michael McCall’s contract negotiations, collective bargaining with five town union locals, the federal opioid multidistrict litigation against CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Teva and Allergan, and the town’s PFAS lawsuit against 3M.

At the board’s Aug. 17 meeting, Town Manager Michael McCall noted labor contracts, particularly the pending teachers’ agreement, remain unsettled. The board also voted to raise ambulance fees 20% effective Sept. 1, setting the Basic Life Support emergency tier at $2,040 from $1,700. The proposed increase is equivalent to roughly 3% annually since Wayland’s rates were last changed in April 2019. They also approved an $18,600 Essential Partners dialogue-training contract funded from mitigation payments. The school committee will formally request an override at the board’s Aug. 31 meeting.
