July 15, 2025 Board of Public Works Meeting

Most of the board’s July 15 meeting was dedicated to discussing and approving $38 million for an MWRA connection and a new PFAS treatment plant (see story page 1).

In other business, Holder warned that MassDOT may close Sherman’s Bridge Road if the towns of Wayland and Sudbury do not proceed with a $1.65 million deck repair that uses an asphalt “glulam” (glued laminated timber) system. Glulam is stronger than steel and has greater strength and stiffness than comparably sized dimensional lumber.

MassDOT has offered $325,000 for materials if work starts this fiscal year, leaving each town to cover roughly $850,000. “The bridge is inspected every six months now. Doing nothing isn’t an option,” Holder said.

The board also reviewed year‑end finances. Water revenue met 97% of projections, while expenses came in at 95%, yielding a small surplus. At the transfer station, sticker sales lagged, with 385 sold in June versus 464 a year ago — but lower expenses offset the dip, Holder reported.
